Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

vivalo's recently lost the njs certification and i think they stopped making them after that. i don't know about oceans, i kinda thought they kept making the ocean branded ones.

I knew that Vivalos were done. Thats been quite awhile.
But Rene was saying or someone was that the old guy retired and isnt building the Oceans either anymore.

I recall they were trying to find someone else to build them now.

As far as I know Kusaka has retired. Also, Rene took off the Ocean link on his site. Somebody should get a full explanation from him and post it. If I'm not mistaken another option that Rene was looking at was to get another builder to build them but no word on that. The ocf-blog.blogspot.com/ (ocean site) is still up but no word on how to order if still taking them.

i emailed him. he stated that right now there was a 3 month waiting period. the only info he gave me was that they were "fully customizable" and the color choices were endless. no other ordering info besides that.

they're all over the place here in osaka, and look great... in all sorts of crazy colors, mettalic flake and otherwise... many of them are "bar-spinnable" as the new generation of pisuto riders here in osaka are all about wheelies and tricks.

This is what I heard last week from a shop.
Vivalo's were available, or at least shops were told so on a custom order only basis for the last couple of months.
This is after the whole "lost NJS" and not the last batch of post lost NJS "street pisto's" that were left over frames redone for front+rear brakes that were sold around until Jan? or so this year, BUT full custom order only frames.
Recently for some reason they stopped making frames.
Ocean was being made by Vivalo (ok I am just using the general term Vivalo not Kusaka-san because I do not know Kusaska-san personally) but I was told there was some sort of trouble/misunderstanding/the deal didn't work out among the 2 parties.
So now Vivalo and Ocean both are not available.

But rumors blah blah...
the only person who really has the answer on this board has to be parkerlewis.

I emailed Rene (parkerlewis) and got this response about the current situation of the Ocean frames.

"We have changed builders and the price went up quite a lot, so we have not been pushing the frames too much. We are still looking to get a better deal like the one we had when VIVALO was building the frames, and when that happens we will 'relaunch' the brand. We are building frames for $1280 at the moment, but want to get the price back down to under $1100."

I would do it but no details to who the new builder is. I really jus like the logos, haha.
