Decent Deal? 1991 LeTour for $160 for SS conversion
Looks like a 1991 as far as I can tell. Decent double butted chromo lugged frame.

Appreciate any input.

That was in Deerfield, IL. I had to ghost ride it 8 miles.
Garbage picking is an institution in the north suburbs of Chicago. Competition is fierce. In my particular development, there are at least 5 trucks cruising for this sole purpose the night before garbage day.
Also from the trash I've gotten a Schwinn Continental, a Raleigh Record Ace, and a Motobecane Mirage.
Edit: I forgot, I also found a women's coaster brake Raleigh, which I need to get around to selling!

I'm pretty sure that bike was bought in Corvallis for $40. Just the other day someone posted a schwinn LeTour of those exact specs, and had sold it the next morning when I called. Not that that really matters, but I thought I would let it be known.

Yeah, that paint is pretty toasted.
IFF you need a bike, and it's definitely your size... you could do worse than True Temper double butted cro-mo. And the rims are kinda nice, in that old school dark ano-ed box rim way. 700c, I would assume. You get aero brake levers, decent seat post, decent stem. I'd try to talk him down a little. Not sure what the market is like there tho.

That's interesting... talking to the guy he stated $160 was the price he arrived at being a good no-haggle price. He also provided pics which showed the fork had a pretty beat up surface on the left side. I offered him $100 and he said he sold it for $160. Told him good deal and have a good one.
Portland market can be nuts with the flippers driving up prices on CL.
I found a guy with a 63.5 cm 1982 Schwinn Superior frame set (frame and fork) who is looking to part with it for $240. Gonna get some pics and might go this route. If I buy it, it'll be going to a good home. Understand it's a rare frame... gonna baby it.

Edit - Hmm - was replying to a post that seems to have been removed.
That looks like an 88 Superior per it's serial number. The early 80s Superiors were built from leftover Paramount parts. Supposedly, the 1982 Superior is the shizz.
Almost seems sacrilegious to make a SS out of it.

The only Superior I have seen in old catalogs with Campy stuff was the 1982 Superior. (I don't have catalogs for several years in the 80's though). The 1982 Superior had Reynolds 531 double-butted main frame, a Tange fork, and Campy Gran Sport running gear. Sakae handlebars and stem. Weighed 25 pounds. That year it was available only in "Pearl Orange". It had notably longer chainstays than the 1982 Paramount, making it more of a "fast touring" bike than a "racing" bike.
A "guesstimate"...the 82 Superior was an import: Schwinn was phasing out its Chicago production at that time. The Tange fork, Sakae handlebars and stem were typical of the bikes that Schwinn was buying from Bridgestone and Panasonic in that time period. So, I'd guess the 1982 Superior was NOT made "side by side" with the Paramounts, but was an Asian import. But, with a "list" price of $880, the 1982 Superior would have been a VERY expensive import. (Note: a post below says the 82 Superior was made in Wisconsin by the folks who had made Paramounts for Schwinn...that would be more consistent with a list price of $880 than with an Asian import bike).
Schwinn used the "Superior" name on a variety of bikes from the 1930's to the 1980's. None of them had better "specs" than the 1982 Superior.
