pic request... short stems
ok my bike has a 120mm stem with a 5 degree rise
i want to go shorter... but how short is too short??
i want an upright feel (i'm already running 2" risers) as this is my beater bike and i just use it for cruising around the boardwalk
i'll be running a thompson stem... 25.4 clamp

my gf rides a 50 on her tarck bike. she says the twitchiness helps in traffic. i also have a 50 on my grocery bike. the geo is different (soho s), but it's still great.
it will be twitchier, but not terrible. the bicycle's trail will still remain in tact, so the responsiveness of the ride will be unchanged; however, it will be more sensitive to what you do with your hands.

I wouldn't go below 80mm personally, and not 90mm ideally. You go too short and it's just bad news for handling IMO.
From your user name I'm guessing you do tricks more than actual riding around the city. But if you ride around the city and want a more upright position, I'd suggest keeping your stem and getting some "Priest" bars or 3 speed cruiser bars. Personally I think one should just man up and learn how to ride bullhorns or track drops in the city (which is perfectly do-able if you don't have a ridiculous saddle-to-bar drop and actually use the drops).

I know this is OT, but I love that set up. I love pink bikes, have one myself. I also have those grips, but am currently running drops, so have yet to use them. dig it tho.
ok, on topic, I have an insanely short stem on my bike, with some rise, I'll go see if I can find the specs on it, but as far as ridability... I went from a 130 to what I have now. I'm not sure what "twitchy" means, but the steering seems less responsive. I can't just move my arms slightly anymore to guide the bike. but, on the positive, I don't feel like magilla gorilla riding the bike anymore.
oh, ok, here's the stem.
it's ugly as all hell, even on the bike. i dont care at all though, it's made my bike so much more comfortable to ride... worth it.
specs:
The Profile Design Boa mountain stem constructed of 6061-T6 and is available in Black or Silver.
Threadless 6061-T6, height = 50mm, 185-277 grams
Bar Clamp Diameter: 25.4 mm
Steerer Tube: 1-1/8" Threadless
Weight: 277.0 g

i went from 90 to 70mm and it feels fine. doesn't feel "twitchy", maybe slightly more responsive, but i dont see the big deal about it.

... in the spirit of pic request:
I mean, the bike has beefy ass welds on it, so maybe the roughness of the stem works. oh, prolly not. who cares. it's comfy

If you ride risers (going on a limb and assuming you do), there are tons of options in the downhill world.
there are even 31.8 drops.

it's the internet, get over it. and i don't see how you find me saying cruiser bars would work well for what you want being an ******* comment. the bike will handle far better with the same stem and bars that come closer vs. a super short stem and risers. it's just general info, i'm sure even dutret would agree.
