Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Sugino Messenger Bottom Bracket

almost done with the build of my second bike and i wanted to get some feedback on a BB ot run on my pake (68 mm BB shell). i just got messenger cranks 165mm 46t and 1/8 with 17t cog on the rear. ive been looking at the Sugino Bottom Bracket and IRD QB-75 JIS Square Taper both 68x103 . Any feedback on either of these or any other recommendations that are not to ridiculously expensive would greatly be obliged. thanks

Got the same thing going, Pake 53cm w/ Sugino RD's. The thing with the them is that they're gonna give you a 45mm chainline with the BB recommended. You might have to put the chainring on the inside of the spider. I've got mine on the outside, with an EAI cog in the back since they supposedly sit out a little further from the hub (it looks wider against a Soma cog). Do a search on this topic, it's been covered a lot.

They both suck, but you don't have a choice really. No one else makes a 103mm bb, well not no one. But nobody that isn't under 3 digits for price anyways. The sugino 103 looks like super basic, ultra shyte bb's that you see come stock on low end bikes. The IRD *looks* better.
