Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Leader 721

Finally got my Leader bike. Apex Bikes in Davis, CA built it up for me. I'm new to fixies so I wanted this one to be done right even if it costed a little. The next one will be my own build. I like it a lot. I would comment on it in detail but obviously my knowledge is limited. It feels really smooth to me, about the same as the IRO I owned for 24 hours (bought it, then found this shop, so CL it right away). The frame feels solid, when you knock on it, or flick it, it sounds like a tin can, but riding it feels solid. I know many of you hated the welds but it looks alright to me for a sub 200 dollar frame. It did come with a small dent, so fragile?... maybe. Feel free to comment, flame, w.e

yeah, i know i gotta chop the handlebars, I just wanted to do that myself cause I didn't know how narrow I wanted them.

No i didn't try to blur the pictures for effect. I just suck at taking pictures.

be careful with dents in aluminum. they compromise the integrety of the frame more than they would a steel frame. i'm sure it's fine if the shop gave it the okay.

ride safe, have fun.

I would also have the dent looked at. Aluminum will fail if compromised. Local framebuilder maybe?

The first picture was in focus. I like the white cuz I built a white bike today.
I think the blue is ok, not over the top. I might try red tires.

Just ride the fungue out of it and have fun

Thanks for the input guys. Got the dent looked at by a local guy I know. He said the dent won't affect anything at all. I LOVE THIS BIKE. I went on a short 7-10 mile ride at around mid night last night and it's been great. Anybody that was thinking about this frame should pull the trigger, I think it's a great buy for the money. I'm 6'3, 225lbs and it feels solid.

It's more of knick. It's so small it's dificult to get a picture of also. Looks bike might have to go though. I locked it up outside my class and cable lock was cut, and my front U lock took a small beating. I didn't think it would be too bad around here, but I can't park my bike for more than an hour without freaking out. I might be better off selling this bike and getting a less flashy fixie.

good thing you had 2 locks. thats 2 more than me.
just build a conversion/beater bike for cheap so you dont need to get rid of that bike.

Yeah, I'm thinking about that, but I'd hate to have the bike sit here. I ride/lock up my bike 6 days a week so I really would have no time for this bike. Goign to post it for a little less than what I got it for for a few days and see what happens.

I think its against the laws of nature for a Leader frame to be built with anything but cut flats on it.

^^^ Leader actually ghosted the letters for the 721. If you look closely (in person, not in my crappy photos), Leader is checkered in an offwhite. Looks pretty cool

Nice, I'm having to return my frame, fork, headset, and seat post. The headset they told me would work wont fit. I'm sick of messing with it.

Seems hectic, hopefully you got a back up bike. Things would go much smoother for me if I could go a few days without a bike, but I can't.

are the emblems reflective? they look like 3m reflective but that could just be the grid/mesh of them.

No they're not reflective. Just a dull off white color.
