Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

A RANT! $14.00 for one strap?!

I was going to order some ALE straps from Benscycle but come to find out they want $14.00 for a single strap, I thought it was a pair. I like benscyle though just kind of shocked by the price for a strap.

I did see a strap selling for $100 as well, sorry but you have to have some screws loose to spend that much money on a strap.

Not at benscycle, you are looking at $190 for a pair.

Welcome to the show, Adam G. People are willing to spend a lot of money on parts, whether for quality, color, or show.

As for ALE leather straps - I bought a pair as a replacement for ones that were stolen (couldn't find the original maker, maybe Christophe). The ALEs have never broken in properly are can be really annoying to get into. Each time I kick in I curse the thief.

And as for $50-$100 per strap. I have nice nylon straps that work as well as leather ones. I also have clipless pedals that were around $75 per pedal...they work much better than a toe clip strap

Considering I have a PAIR that I purchased from Ben's Cycle for $95 on my bike at home this very minute.... uhh... I dunno, you're wrong?

Are you confused by their single/double categories?

I can hold off for a bit I guess. I still have my cheap stock straps and they actually work wonders.

umm..after spending way too much on my bike in no way could i justify the price for many of bens strap options! so, i opted for the schwinn nylon strap for 4.99. and get this, it comes with two..holla! but seriously, they work fine, do the job, etcetera. there are many who use nylon. if you need them asap, go with those!

I guess I am confused. So maybe the ALE are $14 for two. At the checkout point it says quanity 1, not sure if that means a pair or a single.

Yeah, the single/double categories pertain to the number of straps and buckles per strap, not the number of straps you're buying. Ben's is always good about that, they make it clear if you're buying one of something you need a pair of.

I bought my straps from Ben's for $4.99 and they do the job. I won't argue.. if someone wants to drop $100+ on a pair of straps then... ? ok
