SE Lager vs. Specialized Chicago Langster
Only rode fixie a couple times. Loved it! Just started looking at bikes, but I really like the bullhorns. I want my head up to see the car just before it hits me.
Lager- steel, 21.5 lbs. (09's are going up to about $700, but a good-looking red/black color combo)
Langster aluminum/some carbon, 18.6lbs 08's are around $700 (09's up to $800)
Looking for opinions, recommendations.
Thanks!

I have the 08' SE Lager, I love it and its a smooth ride, i think the steel frame gives it a cushion ride. Seems to obsorb bumps nicely. Nice bike to update on componets as well.
Do you have pics of the 09' Lager. Wow its up to $700 now.

Saw it in a dealer catalog. Somewhere I saw on-line picks. I'll look again (they weren't easy to find).

Found it. Here's the link. The colors were sharper in the catalog. Really a dark red. Nice!

Dawes SST = 08 SE Lager. Same exact bike except not that poo brown of the 08. $330. Love mine and lots of people here love theirs too.

Yeah not bad, not my style though with the color scheme a bit to much for me. I totally dig the poo brown color of the 08 lager, that is why I got it. I took off the terrible bar tape it came with and put some nice red cloth tape on it, the brown and red go well together.

I've been told many times that you will most likely not be able to tell the difference at all while riding. Picking it up and carrying it, yes. But riding, no.

I have a Lager. I would say if you want a complete bike, get the Langster. The components are way better. If your going to rip everything off, get the Lager/Dawes, since the frames pretty nice but the components are meh.

My 15lb road bike is no longer, so I took the redline 925 (fixed gear) out this past weekend and did a 100 mile ride on it in roughly the same time as I do on my geared bike. It had lots of climbing too, one 5 miles long. My legs felt a bit more tired, but other than that it was simply a more fun ride due to just pedaling and not dealing with shifting, etc.
The fixed gear weighs significantly more and in what some would say all the wrong places. It has fat, heavy 28c Specialized armadillo tires for commuting, full fenders, and the wheels rims and spokes are quite heavy. Basically the bike is a tank and probably weighs 23 pounds, maybe even more.
I am/was quite the weight weenie and the fixed gear rides have definitely made me wonder how much it truly matters for 'just riding around'
Highly recommend the 925 by redline, too. it's about $500 and the best bang for buck I've seen. handles like a road bike, and has solid components that will last.

Yea, how quick or fast a bike feels will most likely be due to the weight of the rims/spokes/tires. If you have $700 to spend on a new Lager, you can get the dawes. Sell the wheels for maybe $100, and spend that and the different on a nice new wheelset, and maybe have some extra to upgrade some other stuff.

I just got the langster las vegas, I love it. I would have gone with the chicago for the same reason, plus the flat black paint is where it's at... But I think they're all sold off... maybe some 49s left, good luck hunting one down... I wasn't aware the langsters are only 18.6 lbs? Can we confirm this?
