What happened to IRO Cycles?

They don't have anymore components for sale, just a smathering of frames

Is IRO going belly-up?

Good question. A friend ordered a frame two months back, still hasn't gotten it yet.

Which is funny, since it clearly states that at the moment on the front page of the site that it will take 8 weeks to ship a bike.
They have got their hands full, they know it, and they are working on it. Go to the customer appreciation day to find out what the status is.

First off, that is incorrect, and irrelevant. Two months ago there was no mention of a wait. Everything was still in stock, and people who ordered frames during that time were getting them less than a week after ordering.

He calls everyday. It's not that big of a big deal, he knows they've been busy. He is anxious though, especially since he paid for it when he placed the order.

my girl ordered her heidi a few weeks back. w/three day shipping, as we were supposed to take a trip to montreal and she wanted to have her new bike with her.

two weeks, and several unanswered messages later, she finally got a hold of someone via email and asked what the purpose of her paying an extra 40 dollars for 3 day shipping was, when they hadn't even packed/shipped the bike. granted, the 3 day shipping is not iro's issue.... but their site contained no notice that it would take 8 weeks to ship. so assuming that your bike would be packed/shipped within a couple days, and arrive to you 3 days after it leaves iro's hands is not outlandish.

anyway, they did finally ship it out after the final emails. however, when we took it out of the box we noticed that several of the parts were not the ones she had selected on the site: they sent it to her fixed instead of singlespeed, silver bars instead of black, etc. we checked the invoice and it confirmed that they did send the wrong bars, but the invoice listed that she had ordered a cog instead of a freewheel.... which is impossible, because i was there when she ordered it and told her which parts to select before giving it a final checkover.

anyway, my girl finally got a hold of them and said that she would keep the bike as is..... but that they should either refund the amount she paid for her 3 day shipping, or send her a freewheel as a show of good customer service. i don't believe they've responded, and it's been several weeks now.

in comparison: i ordered my bike from BD a while back, got it in 3-4 days (w/o 3 day shipping....) and everything was as it should have been.

oh well....

According the FAQ:
B. ORDERS
1) How long will it take to fill my order?

This depends on your order and on our workload. Wheels generally take about 2 weeks to build, complete bikes take 4-6. You'll get an email, including the UPS tracking number, when your order ships.

-I think mine took five.

One of the issues of purchasing from a small business like that. Look at all the custom frame builders sites and it will show you a wait period of over a year or even longer with the higher end builders. Granted IRO buys their frames already made so there's no excuse they don't hire temps to help fill out orders faster and keep their customers happy by actually answering phones and emails.

I hate that website. And I hate it even more because I check it all of the time and it always disappoints me with its extreme slowness and infrequent updates.

I know Tony is busy but all of the shops around here in NYC that sell IRO frames can not, for the most part, get in touch with him at all. He ignores their calls. In the last two, two and a half months only two shops (that I know of) got any frames, and even then they just randomly got only a few.

I agree with mugatu:

they should be thriving and expanding and swimming in pools of money
instead they're drowning in it
EDIT: I just read what Tony had to say on his Customer Appreciation post on the IRO Breaking News page, and I feel bad for saying bad things because he acknowledged his/their slowness: "Also, it's taking me longer than I'd like to answer your emails. I'm not happy about it and I'm doing everything I can to rectify the situation, staffing up and bulking up production."

I still don't like the website though.

As with most mom & pop shops, things happen a little slower. With only so many people on staff, they can only do should they hire more people to deal with an apparent increase in sales? Maybe, but only if you the customer will be willing to pay more for IRO products. I'm sure Tony hates the fact that many of his customers are waiting longer than expected for his product (as he has mentioned on his site), but knows for sure that many of you would hate to see his prices go up because he had to pay for extra staff to get his product out quicker.

I'm hoping I can go to his pig roast this weekend and get to meet him (and maybe come away with some schwag!) but one of my sons has a soccer game around the same time in the lancaster area.

Is anybody in the Boston area going to make the drive down to the party in PA?

A friend and I are looking to go, but we're kind of S.O.L. with transportation.

We'd be willing to pitch in a lot of money for gas.

Thanks in advance.
