Ripping of Jeans?

So I've been riding for a little over 4 months and I'm developing a slight problem. The crotch of all of my jeans are ripping. Now I have a feeling that this could get expensive, I can normally keep a pair of jeans for 2 years! But now all 6 pair of my jeans are ripped/ripping at the crotch.

Anyone have any suggestions? Besides like biking shorts or something? Patching?

I can't imagine that I'm the only person with this problem.

I've got a couple of pairs that need patching around the crotch. My only recommendation is penis reduction surgery, although I'm still ripping through a lot of jeans even after my surgery. Curse this Herculean groin of mine!

I had this problem and I took it to my local drycleaners where they sewed a patch on and sewed it so you couldn't tell it was ever ripped. Only cost me $6!

dunno if they still do it but seagull bags would take your ripped jeans and patch them and also pad the ass area.

buy cheap jeans. i never ride with expensive jeans as often. I also bought dickies. i just started to buy jeans at target. 15 dollar jeans that last a couple of months is great. i also don't wear the same jeans everyday.

Go to the thrift store a get a big load of cheap jeans. When they are $5 a piece it isn't such a big deal if they rip.

After they rip, you can use the remaining jean material to patch with.

Cycling clothes are made for the stresses of the saddle. There is no other solution.. I first rode in cargo shorts when I re-took up cycling.. Same problem.. Traditional seams are not made for a saddle. I carry some soccer shorts and put them on after I get off the bike. Where as lycra. It takes the beating.. I've had lycra shorts than lasted for five years and still wearable. . Don't like those eggs.. Then at the very least, cycle in cheap jeans.

I wear Carhartts(the canvas ones) and they last considerably longer than normal jeans. As gmodo suggested check with Seagull. They used to patch jeans with Cordura(mess bag material) for pretty cheap although I don't see that service mentioned on their new website. Or just go buy some Cordura or cotton canvas and do it yourself!

I ride in jeans daily because that's what I wear to class. The only issues I have with them is tearing at the right pant leg now and then from when they catch the chain.

there's always gotta be someone who busts out a comment like this.

i usually wear jeans because they're comfortable. as long as i wear some properly fitting gonch underneath i don't have problems. even 8 years messing, i wore jeans most days (aside from the rainy ones) and simply enjoyed the look and function of a pair of blue jeans.

I just ripped my last pair of Levis with the crotch intact. Annoying, but I'll probably drop $40 on another pair and it will happen again.

Leave it to Self Edge to get that going. I remember hanging out there one time and realizing that the pants in there cost ten times what mine did. It was still fun to walk up to my girlfriend holding a pair of pants and go "Hey honey..." and puppy dog eyes her.

paying $40 for Levis?

protip: go to Kohl's. Every other week they have some old peoples' day or school savings day or mega-blowout-super-sale-everything-30-percent-off sale. You can get your precious Levis 511/514 for like $20 bux. Also, adidas sambas for almost nothing.
