Which gear ratio?
I don't want to delve into bicycle mathematics. I just want to know how these combinations size up based off past experience or knowledge.
And yes, I know that gear calculators exist and can calculate gain ratios, gear inches and whatnot. That's not what I want. I'm a simpleton when it comes to math.
Alright, I have a ss mtb I'm using as the winter beater. Lincoln's a relatively flat city and I'll be using this bike for commuting to and from school, getting grocery, and ****ing around. I'm a heavy built guy and a strong enough rider.
Chainring: 44 tooth
Cranks: 170 mm
I have three cogs in my collection to choose from: 16, 18, and 20 tooth.
Which do you think would be the best?

I'd say 16 too. Worst case scenario, you try it out, don't like it, and swap it out for one of the other two.

Thanks guys! That's actually what I was thinking, but I saw something about a 2:1 ratio or something. Although, I don't know exactly what that ratio was referring to.
