before you go buying stems and changing parts around just ride the bike and see where you feel any discomfort. neck pain, wrist pain, lower back pain, all these are factors to consider how the bike fit is affecting you and what needs to be addressed.

I think it all comes down to:
1. Is it safe?
2. Is it comfortable?
As long as you can comfortably ride and control the bike, it should be fine. I just bought a Takara Advantage from the early 80's I intended to convert and give to my GF. Its a 48cm/18in., and after stripping it down and adding 700c wheelset, it fits me really well( I'm 5'7). It would be a little too small for racing, but just riding around its super comfortable, even with the seat dropped almost all the way down. I also have a 49cm and 52cm, and a 15in 29er, all fit great and all have vastly different geometry.

just curious and i know this is totally irrelevant... but did you get one of the city edition langsters?? or just the regular one??

I feel similar to the op as I feel that my 53cm Iro (54cm TT) might be a slight bit large for me. I'm 5'8" with a 31" inseam and although I can stand over the tt with about an inch of slack, I feel a little stretched out with a 100mm stem. I could go shorter on the stem, but I'm thinking that perhaps a smaller frame would be better? What do you guys think?

For those of you riding IRO's who are standing at roughly my height, what size frame are you riding and what would you recommend.

I always felt that a 56 cm frame was a little too small for me and 58 a little too big. So, when I was able to have a road frame built for me (by Mike Appel), I decided on 57 cm. I went through 3 stems before I found the perfect match after riding hundreds of miles.

Sadly, I no longer have that bike but now ride a 58 cm 3Rensho track frame that I can barely clear the top tube. Interestingly, the top tube is only 55.5 cm in length and I'm riding it with the same size stem I rode on my 57 cm Appel.

Once I'm riding in the saddle, this frame seems perfect with a 120 stem and 170 cranks. ...and I'm 6 ft with a 32 in. inseam.

Not quite. Bike fit never "doesn't matter" but it's more important the farther you are riding. People doing PBP need extremely well tuned ergonomics; people riding down the block can and do get away with all kinds of ill fitting setups; and in between there is a spectrum of how sub optimal your ergonomics can be without probems coming up. This isn't a controversial or difficult point. I'm surprised by your uncharacteristically ******y reaction, Dobber.

Try a smaller stem first. You should be able to return it if it does not work out for you.

I was riding a 61-62 Nishiki for the longest time! I'm only 5'8 and it was my only means of commuting to work at the time. Huge bike, but I got used to it. I rode it for 6 months or so before getting another Nishiki in a smaller size.

It seems the bike is just slightly big on you? If so I wouldn't sweat it as long as your boys got some clearance.

Its an 08 London. I just didnt want to shell out another 130$ for a base 09 at my LBS. I figure its a decent starting bike to get into and then after dental school ill buy a bike thats better, or so thats my rational. I particularly think its just kool and different but i know how 99.5% of the members seem to not like the city editions..oh well lol
