This same sort of thing happened all the time on VW Vortex...
"I just got a Jetta from my grandmas gin rummy buddy down the road for $100!! What should my first modz be???? K&N intake and a new seat cover from Autozone!!?"
I would hope that by now, after all your intensive market research into the fixed gear world, you would have determined what kind of components and what style you might be going for. I'm totally with novacane here... this is YOUR bike, not the BikeForums SSFG theme bike, so do what you want, and make it the way you'd like. Don't leave this bike up to committee. Do your own thing!!!
You already have a real good base, so run with it and make it your own.

all right guys thanks for those who actually responded with genuine answers. Im a amateur cyclist not a complete tard.
Right now i pretty much have the bike all set up, bought new crane creek wheelset on craigslist for 300, took some parts off my old road bike, and its looking pretty good right now, ill post some picks up later.
Im pleasantly surprised at how freaking light this thing is. I would say 15-16 lbs.
And yes it was a steal.

the one the OP bought. we go to the same college. so i met up with him
it's what appears to be a 05' FTP, but all tubes are covered in electrical tape
it has a octalink bb (dunno brand)
and it features a da7710 170mm njs crankset + campy chainring like he stated
i breifly mentioned that he should take off the electrical tape and search for any dings or dents that might have been "covered up"
his wheelset is also pretty nice which are silver cane creek track hubs from (the volo wheelset) laced with bladed spokes to non machined silver deep Vs.

All right guys sorry for the wait, met up with jdms mvp, he knows his ****
Here are the pics, dont give me crap about the black tape, I like how it looks and it offers ding/scratch protection.
Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

It could look nice Ditch that saddle, and that brake lever doesn't belong in the same zip code as an FTP. Flip the stem around and get some risers if you want your hands up higher. Unless that tape is hiding some serious cosmetic flaw, get that off too. Trons is right, the scratch protection looks worse than any scratch you would actually put on it. But it sounds like you got a pretty good deal.
