Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Saw this on slashdot and thought it was beautiful and haunting and the writer likes motorcycles, not sure how far the stretch is on this but screw it, check it out and I'm sure you will find it interesting.

So here's the angle, i had to think a bit. Singlespeeders and bicycle commuters are about getting back to basics, at least I am, that's why I don't own a car, and i like the freedom to repair my own bikes-- thus the singlespeeds. That's part of it, also this girl rides her bike in this place--motorcycle, would you ride your bicycle here for a tour, to see the wildlife, etc?
The images just sort of haunted me.

I used to joke about how I would always be able to remember my wedding anniversary, b/c there'd always be Chernobyl follow-up stories to remind me (we got married April 26, 1986). Of course, we didn't even know about it then for days afterward - we were in Hong Kong on our honeymoon when word finally got out to the West.

Boy, those are some incredibly haunting photos and images. So much for the "people's republic" taking care of its people.

yep. it was a fierce battle to keep my eyes open. the plot was slow, the end was lame, but the imagery was mesmerizing.
