This is the 3rd life for this bike. I got it for $30 from a neighbor and it was used! - probably the dirtiest, greasiest bike I've ever seen, equipped with cheap, entry level, worn-out parts. I fixed it up and it had a 2nd life as my son's first road bike. It was loaned out quite a bit, probably ridden off a few curbs, etc (got it back twice with broken spokes). At any rate, here it is as a fixie conversion. I stripped it, bought some new wheels, cut down some risers, and that's about it. It all seemed so simple compared to my first two conversions. We're really pleased with how it turned out.
beautiful! i had that same bike as my first road bike a few years ago. unfortunately a stupid pickup truck driver took it's life :-(

Beautiful bike. I've always wanted to fix up one of these Peugeot frames coz they are so classy, but I can never find one reasonably priced. People here want hundreds of dollars for them on CL typically.

It is the wheelset from bicyclewheelwhare.com. With tax and shipping I think it was $165. They're not much for answering emails, but they shipped them the next day, I had them in no time, they arrived safe, and the wheels turn smoothly. Besides the wheels, all I had to buy were the risers, and a LBS sold them to me for $5 used. I had everything else. I still want to get some GR-9 pedals with mini chrome clips, when Ben's gets this back in stock. And my son wants the brake off, but for now, it stays.
For gearing, the wheels came with a 15T cog and lockring, which I decided to use, even though my son is running 14/42 on his other fixie. And that's the stock small 42T chainring from the Peugot.
As far as these old frames - I got lucky with this one. I've looked and looked on cl and rarely find anything. Before I knew what a fixie was I sold three complete bikes with great frames: a Fuji Touring IV that I wasn't riding, a Raleigh that was too big, and the best was an old English Falcon with a dodgy headset, for the unheard of prices of: $150, $45 & $35. I've been kicking myself quite hard, ever since I started looking for frames to convert.
I like this Peugot in some ways, better than the much more expensive Bianchi and Faggin I converted. I think it better captures that lean/clean stripped-down aesthetic that makes fixies so appealing.
