    Only one skid patch?

    So I'm running a gear combination of 42/14, which according to the gear inch calculator says I have only 1 skid patch. But when I spin my cranks 1 full rotation, the wheel seems to stop in about 4 different positions. I guess the wheel size must play a part, but I'm using a 700cm wheel, which I assume is the standard. I must be missing something.

    If it's stopping in 4 different spots, you probably aren't running 42-14 or you aren't stopping the crank in the same spot every time.

    You have 2 skid patches. When you you simply 42/14 to 3/1 and you have the ability to skid with either foot forward and both the numerator and denominator are odd, the number of possible skid patches will be doubled.

    This is nonsense.

    If you have both numerator and denominator even then you can simplfy the denominator to 1 which would always be true. In which case you have 1 skid patch. If you start adding qualifications like "left foot forward or vice versa" you might as well have said nothing as it's worthless. The number of skid patches haven't doubled anymore than not stopping your foot at exactly one rotation.

    Typically, people can only skid with their feet 3 & 9 o'clock. That can be done with either the left or the right foot occupying either of those positions. Therefore, there are 2 positions from which you can skid. If the denominator is even, the tire will be in the same position whether your left or right foot is at 3; if the denominator is odd, the tire will be in a different location when the left foot is at 3 than when the right foot is at 3. Thus your number of skid patches is doubled in such cases (for instance 3/1 - 2 possible skid patches).

    I also heard that the angle of the dangle is inversely proportionate to the heat of the beat.

    Silly Texan. I use brake for infinite skid patch.
