This is not a thread about dying a brooks saddle on purpose; instead it is a question aimed at all the people who have completed a hipster trifector, owning a fixed gear, buying a brooks saddle, and wearing dry denim (eg nudies, apc, skulls, evisu, whatever). I personally do like a bit of dry denim, and not washing, and as such I tend to shed a bit of indigo around the place... anyone also wearing dry jeans and riding a brooks saddle? particularly honey? I bought a b17 narrow, in dark brown, to avoid it looking bad when the blue rubs onto it, but I've found it to be too narrow, now I'm looking at a team pro, and can only choose black or honey... the honey's nice, but maybe not when it's tinged with blue :s?

I know this thread is like +100000 hipster, but I figure someone might have some more input. I asked on a denim forum first haha, but got little response, so hopefully cyclists wear trendy jeans more than denimheads ride bikes?

If you wash your pants, they are probably going to look the same as if you didnt wash them, because they are actually meant to be, well, washed.

if you're worried about shrinkage, hang them up to dry and wash on cold.

and how about putting a plastic bag over your saddle? or does that take away style points?

on the other hand, if you go for the black brooks, you'll most likely get a huge black mark in your ass crack that'll make it look like you **** your pants.

He is probably worried about ruining dye job (most people worry about this when it comes to jeans) or the fabric itself. That or they are new and he is still breaking them in.

Wash your jeans on gentle cycle in cold water. Pull them inside out before you throw them in the wash, and add 2 tablespoons of salt with it. Wash with other jeans or dark clothes.

Sorry to gay up the thread, but it's useful info for people wanting to keep their jeans nice.

Perhaps I am not quite understanding what you said, but what exactly is so hipstery about being concerned about an expensive saddle being discolored?

I had to google "dry denim" just to figure out what was going on here.

I think I bought a pair of these jeans once by mistake because the indigo dye kept rubbing off on things until I washed them a few times in a row. I am surprised to learn that people really wear a pair of pants for 6 months without washing them when they are not homeless or something. Hell, I lived in the woods for a year and managed to wash my pants once a week in a stream.

Anyway, I have a b-17 in honey which has darkened nicely over time. Why don't you just grab a saddle cover? They you can cover up the brooks while you ride it with these special pants, and uncover when you are wearing regular pants.

Is dry denim the same as Raw Denim, because it sounds like your talking about raw denim. Besides do hipsters even wear raw denim? I thought that was a Hypebeast thing...

FWIW, I usually go like a month in the same pair of jeans before washing them. B) They shrink up in the wash, and after a week or two they loosen up to fit beautifully, so I just keep going.

This has nothing to do with bikes however.

Don't use salt! It tends to draw dye out of fabric. You can actually make a new shirt look vintage by soaking it in salt.

If you are concerned about dye running out of the jeans then soak them in ice water. This will help to set the dye and then iron them on top of some clean paper, this will permanently set the dye.

Finally, why the **** does anyone care if a saddle changes color!?!! It shows that the bike has been ****ing ridden. God! ****!
