Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Man, I'd love to get a CX bike, **** looks fun as hell, but I'm already in enough trouble with the missus for getting the Exile.

Long straps give me something to grab onto when I need to crank them down, plus I think long straps are cool. Valve caps are staying, hell they were the whole reason I went orange on the frame. If I roll a tub, I'll have worse things to worry about.

Thanks.

Yes except that the Pake is straight gauge 4130.

line up labels with valve stems? why? is it just for aesthetics? there are specific reasons to install car tyres in a certain way, but bike tyres?

If you flat you can more easily find the puncture in the tube or tire, respectively, based on where you find the puncture in the tire or tube, respectively.

Wow, thanks. This whole time I thought the valve stem / label matching thing was purely obnoxious and trivial, but now I know there is actually a practical reason for it. Makes sense.

yes, yes...i know. in my defense, spd-sl pedals are the *only* shimano on my road bikes (ok, a smattering on the mtbs, but still mostly not).

unfortunately, they work very well and i've kind of standardized on them. one pair of shoes, 3 road bikes, 3 campy cranks, 3 sets spd-sl. i realize it's wrong, and i am truly ashamed...maybe i'll put some campy stickers on 'em, eh?

your rear tire. if you're planning to ride brakeless, you will go through that tire REALLY fast. the compound just crumbles off.

yeah that was a good frame and fork, wish i would've kept it for a while and put gears on it.
i sold it a few years ago. the guy that bought it rear-ended a car a few weeks after.
top and downtube both were crippled after that.

but yeah i've moved on long ago and my bike setups look better and make more sense now, i'm pretty much happy where i'm at with the bike **** now.

Yes, clipless looks better, but my winter boots look even better than clipless. And you're right about that light, it needs to be amputated at once.
