favorite high end Crank

Which one? Regardless of where it will be used...

tmh657 11-21-08 10:55 PM

Does it have to be 165? Wy not just leave that stipulation out.

walking disease 11-21-08 10:58 PM

campy record

Jabba Degrassi 11-21-08 11:04 PM

Well if they have to be 165mm I'm gonna go with DA. Otherwise I would have picked 75s.

I have my reasons.

LEAVE ME ALONE!

edit: voted omniums.

Just curious if you dislike DA longer than 165mm. I have some 175's

Basically I was trying to give the most ridiculous answer I could think of.

suntour superbe pro
dura ace 7600

jhota 11-22-08 08:06 AM

165 is too short for me anywhere. so, Truvativ Holzfeller would be my vote (i run a 170 Hussefelt on my SS).

new campy record..

blickblocks 11-22-08 02:23 PM

None of those cranks listed are exactly "high end" (the Omniums are newer technology but still not too high end). Maybe if you're riding around on a Bulletproof they might seem high end, but unless you're talking about carbon honeycomb disc chainrings and external bearing systems you're still riding on 70's technology.

peabodypride 11-22-08 02:31 PM

Sugino 75.

dura ace 7710 is still being use a world championships

jhaber 11-22-08 03:29 PM

What is the weight for the cranks listed? (I don't feel like Googling all of them)

I ride the omniums and really like them. Do any of the others listed have external bearings? As far as I know as of this posting the omniums are the cheapest, lightest (factoring in the bb), and best tech (external bearings). If that is the case I see this as a no brainier. I could be way off base with those three assumptions though.

Wernt people running the omniums at the olympics this year?

jdms mvp 11-22-08 03:31 PM

i dont remember seeing anyone on omniums....

out of the ones listed all are square taper sans the omniums...

dura ace 7710 are octalink

Yeah, these cranks listed are so low end the pros don't even ride them

blickblocks 11-22-08 04:26 PM

I didn't say they were low end. Don't do that to me.

Is that before or after you realized external is being deprecated by BB30?

physh 11-22-08 04:48 PM

Omniums are not a high end crank. In fact, track racers consider them low end.

Dura ace's are stiffer than Omniums.

andre nickatina 11-22-08 05:05 PM

What a dumb statement. Did you go and interview every track racer in the world? My buddy races Men's A match sprints and favors Omniums over DA 7710's, so there ya go. To each his own.

The fact of the matter is cranks don't necessarily need to be carbon or have other new-fangled technology like "honeycomb disc chainrings" to make them high end. Dura Ace road cranks are still aluminum, for instance. Anyways, in the context of track racing, the cranks the OP selected are indeed the high end range and the most common sets found on pro bikes.
