fantom cross uno vs other bd bikes?
looks like the fcu is the best deal but then again i dont know a whole lot about bikes.
i guess what im asking is, is it worth the increased cost over the motobecane messenger/dawes sst/hour etc?
i searched and didnt find any threads comparing it to the rest value wise

It's a cyclocross bike, so its a whole different animal than the other singlespeed/fixed gear bikes. wider tires that were meant to go on dirt. Cantilever brakes. I've never ridden one, so I don't have any input but... uh... the kilo is nice!

I purchased a FCU and replaced a few of the wonky parts with some parts I had laying around. The bike is a pretty good deal IMO, but the stem, saddle, seatpost, and the brake levers had to go. I also used Nokon cables when the levers got swapped.
Not in this photo is a Chris King headset that I've owned since '92.

I bought one a few months ago and I love it. It is used mainly for commuting to work and riding around town. It is well suited for the job. It comes with 30mm tires, which I swapped out for 35's, but the 30's would work fine on the street. Also, there's no reason you can't run 23's. There will be tons of clearance, but who is going to notice when you're riding by. It also has mounts for fenders and racks, front and rear. The canti's are great, and offer better braking than caliper brakes. For the money, you can't beat it. I have a Pista that I love as well, but most of my rides are on the FCU.
