Is this a good process for removing paint/rust?
 

I bought an old steel frame (chrome lugs) that has some rust and a terrible paint job. I'm going to strip the paint and remove the rust and then repaint it. I want to leave most of the chrome unpainted, but I'm going to paint the other parts of the frame. This is what I've learned from reading the forum:

1. Strip the paint with JASCO. Removes paint but doesn't damage chrome.
2. Give it a bath in Oxalic Acid (wood bleach) solution. Buy crystal form - works better than the liquid form. Takes anywhere from 1-3 days. Use a plastic kid pool to put the whole frame in at once. Remove regularly (every 12 hours) and scrub off yellow/green residue with plastic scrub brush. (what strength do i mix this stuff?)
3. Immediately after acid bath, give it a bath in Baking Soda. This neutralizes the Oxalic Acid left on the frame. (How long? Mix with water?)
4. Immediately after baking soda, apply rust protection. Frame Saver for the inside. (What do i use on the outside for the chrome? What do i use on the parts that i will paint?)
5. Paint

Am I missing anything else?

First off why the acid bath? That's not even necessary and you're asking for trouble dealing with strong acids. Do the Jasco, wash the frame and dry it for a day, primer, paint. Or have the frame powder coated professionally and save the hassle. Or just have a powdercoater sand blast or media blast the frame for you. You're thinking too much into the simple process of painting a bike, it shouldn't be that difficult.

First of all, thanks. I am happy to simplify this process if possible. But...

Right now there is rust that has caused the paint to bubble and peel. I thought if I painted over it, the rust would just cause the paint to bubble again. So I thought I had to remove the rust first. Plus, there are some rust spots on the chrome that has to be removed. I don't want to paint the chrome. Of the acid removal techniques i read about, this sounded easiest. Maybe not though. I'm open to suggestions.

I want to paint (not powder coat) because I can do it myself.

I stripped it the simplest way possible but longest as well. get a drill and a wire brush bit and sit there 5 hours a day 4 days straight and strip it, works very well but its labor intensive.

There's nothing better and safer to remove rust than good ol' fashioned elbow grease! Use the Jasco to remove the paint, and sand paper or a drill/wire brush like Mr. B said above and go to town on that rust. Remember the best way to get a good paint job is a really good prep job.
