Reflective Paint

anybody use this stuff? I do a lot of night riding and think it'd be great if it really works...

Krylon Reflect-A-Lite Clear Reflective Paint - K09955 | Paint

REFLECT-A-LITE™ Spray Paint is a clear coating that directly reflects flashlight, headlights, and other direct light sources. This reflective coating uses glass sphere technology and can be applied to virtually any item without obscuring its original color.

I used it as a clearcoat on a bike once. Gave it a sparkly look in the sunshine. Decent reflectiveness at night but not as good as the reflective piping and bits on one of my jerseys.

i used it. returned it after a few hours of trying it at night. its not very reflective at all, at least not a way that could actually save you from getting hit.

i bought some black tape here, its true, you can't reallly see it in daylight.

I've used similar tape as rim tape for my motorcylce. Works really well. During the day it looks like a pin stripe on my wheels. At night (or when I take photos with a flash) it lights up like the stuff they sew onto jackets and jerseys all the time.

A pro painter would probably laugh if you brought them a rattle-can and asked them to spray it for you.

i looked into doing that a while back...as i remember, the consensus was that the reflective stuff needs to be the last layer, like, you can't clear coat it, and it scratches off fairly easily.

Actually, I think most road signs are laminated / filmed / taped rather than painted.

However, if you dig through the Prolly is Not Probably Blog, it appears that bike was actually powdercoated with some 3M powdercoating.

squarebuilt might be able to give some guidance on what they actually did and you could take a frame to a local powder coater...

some interesting other posts...
