Hello. I was thinking about getting these bars to have a few more hand positions when riding. Ben's Cycle is out of these bars in the 38, which probably means they are popular. Do you guys think the 40cm is too wide? Should I look on a different site? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

need to know things about your body size (shoulder width etc)
wider bars are never a bad thing. people are stupidly crazy about skiny bars, but if they're narrower than your shjoulders, it's just restricting your breathing and your climbing power

the bars are measured from the center of one curve to the other.

OKAYYYYY I am going to tell you EXACTLY what you want to know!!! I used to have Nitto drop bar on my old fixed gear bike they were 38cm wide. I recently got some Nitto RB-019s that are 42cm wide!!! I know wtf right 42cm is ultra wide. . .but it isn't. 42cm isn't a crazy long width, in fact I prefer the 42cm over the 38cm bar. I say go for the 40cm bar. This is coming from a guy who loves crazy short bars, so DO IT!!

I guarantee you will love the 40cm bars or your money back. And as a bonus if you call now we will double your order! But seriously I was worried about my 42cm bars and before I even got them I was trying to see if I could return them but when I got them I was more than pleased. The only thing that does suck is that if you are ordering from Ben's Cycle you just missed a 15% off appreciation sale they had last weekend.

just so you know the 38's are real hard to find, you will most likely need to find a shop to special order or scour the internet. But find out your measurements first!

Depends on how wide your shoulders are, but I wish I'd gotten mine wider... Just my .02

so i just measured my shoulder width and its 44cm (I have wide shoulders) so technically i should go with the 44cm bar?

I don't want my arms to be too stretched apart when I'm on the horns so should I size down?

I really don't have measuring tape. But, I currently have some straight bars that I cut 4.5 inches off of at the shop. My LBS just gave them to me and I don't know how long they were.

because if it was a smaller width, i'd have more arm length so i wouldn't be as bent over

NoCash - so do you have a sportcoat or a suit? The size is your shoulder width - 44R = 44CM regular.

Personally, I have 44cm bullhorns on mine - I have 44cm shoulders...tons of leverage for pulling. But I'm not worried about somebody saying they look stupid either.

Sadly, I do not. I never have a reason to be dressed up.

But is the 40cm pretty much the "normal" size? I'm a pretty average sized kid.

2cm is a big difference. Move your seatpost up 2cm or get a stem 2cm longer and see what happens. The smallest size on modern road bikes 52cm+ is usually 42. Unless your shoulders are real narrow, get 40-42. If they are wide get 44.

neither one of those is remotely close to having bars that are 2 cm wider or narrower.

go with what fits you. measure from the center of your shoulder to the other.
