Sputnik tire width

Anybody the widest tire I can fit on a Sputnik? I'm thinking of using it this winter and the 23's on it are not gonna be much good in wet or snowy conditions.

not that it really answers your question, but I've been riding 23's so far this winter with no issue. I'd like something wider but when you're poor you go with what you have.

thought i posted this before...(mods?)

the fork is the issue. plenty of room in the back. a 25c vredstein barely fits up front, other mfgs may be different. i doubt you'd get anyone's 28c in the fork.

that said, why subject that nice steel frame to the elements? were it me, i'd be shopping for a beater.

Sorry, something was wrong with the search function and it didn't show my first post, so I posted again. Thanks for the input.

+1 to everything dookie said...The best part about the sputnik is the frame...The welds are cleaner than the ones on my wisconsin-built Lemond...The clearance on the front fork is tight even with a 23c tire...Even if you swap out the fork for a surly or something like that with more clearance, it's never going to be great in winter...
