Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Ok, ALMOST done, but can't wait to post the pics... Here's my "2nd" fixed project (1st only kind of counts...I bought a converted Schwinn Varsity, haha).

Unknown 56cm frame (looks like SE Lager/Windor Hour/Dawes SST), but it's matte black with Ritchey 1 1/8 threadless headset & unknown stem (120mm): AlexRim 390 on back to Formula fix/free hub with 16T Fixed Surly Cog & unknown 16T freewheel (never flopped it to SS). Front is Mavic Cosmo (need to match wheels). Trans-X bullhorns 44cm, Kalin seatpost with Velo Plush seat, held by salsa liplock. FSA Vero cranks with Pyramid platform/SPDs. Tektro 4.1 lever (black "matching" brake on the way). Blue KMZ Chain.

Headed to LBS this weekend to cut fork & get the spacers on there.

Not sure what I want for wheels. Maybe some black Deep Vs with Orange formula hubs. Waiting on some Orange Origin8 track pedals, blue MKS toeclips & straps.

Currently running 39/16, but have 42 & 44 chainring on way ... don't know what gearing I want/need...once I figure out, will likely get Blue ANO Messenger chainring.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Complaints? It's my first "from scratch" fixed gear project & haven't completed yet. Looking forward to getting a ride in, but it's 18 degrees with a fresh inch of snow today ... ugh.

I made my first two fixed gear conversions (a Trek 1000 then a F. Moser) back in 2001 or 2002 before digital cameras were popular so I don't have any snaps.

My first fixed gear conversion:
42 X 16 gearing

Total of $225 Canadian invested into it.
Yes I need foot retention of some sort, but it'll have to wait until I can afford a new set of clips/pedals...That should be in the next week or two.

My first fixie was a converted Fuji Special Road Racer. Horrible rattle can paint. Cheap fixed/free wheelset. Bulletproof cranks. Bontrager Race Lite bars chopped crazy short. Spare parts box build. It was fun though.

Handed down to me by a friend, and now I have handed it down to my little brother so he can get into riding fixed gears.
