Surly Dingle + 130mm Surly Fixed Hub...

What is the chainline(s) for this combo? Surly told me it would be 45 inner 50 outer. I mated a 113mm Truvativ square taper BB to a Sugino RD crank and the chainline I'm getting is. I thought the chainline would be about 50 outer but after measuring it seems like it's actually 47.5 on the outer chainring which should mean that the chain runs inboard. It doesn't though. It actually (looks) like it runs outboard towards the crank.

Wtf? Can anybody help?

No idea why your measurements are off, unless you've got something out of spec, or are measuring wrong.

Screw the measurements as suggested. If you're only running a single ring, space/move things however you can to get the chainline running from the front ring straight down the middle of the dingle cogs. That way you're only off a bit when running either one.

I ran a single ring/Dingle cog setup for a long time, and that worked very well. Stayed quiet, didn't wear any faster than other single cog setups I'd used, and never had any issues losing the chain.

Thanks for the reply. I'm actually running a double. 46/42 to 17/21. The way it "looks" it seems as if the inner chainring runs about parallel w/ the outer dingle cog.

I need to learn to measure chainlines on hubs. Seems like it's hard to do if the wheel is already built.

Divide hub spacing by two.

Subtract distance from outside face of cog to inside face of drop out.

Subtract 1mm for half the thickness of cog, or measure it if you want to be closer than 0.5mm.

I.e., 130/2-14-1=50mm chainline.
