jkiv's reminded me of this, which happened many moons ago. I didn't crash, but I almost swerved into a car to avoid it.

Don't eat me alive for this, I know riding on the sidewalk is very dumb. This was a long time ago, and I was riding from my house at 5th street to my friends on 4th, and this street ran the opposite way. I should have just walked, but the sidewalk was empty... I'll never ride on a sidewalk again. P.S. notice the ubiquitous Philly litter. Sorry for the tiny text. Maybe it just looks tiny on my eeepc.

Road bikes are not mountain bikes
Last Saturday:
Got a little road rash, and some wounded pride. Bike was 100% fine except for the tiniest scratch on the top of one brifter.

The depicted incident was my first ever really serious crash, coming home from camp at age 14 or so. It was the anticipation that really sucked. As an adult, I've had plenty of insects bounce off me, and two sting incidents: I had a wasp get stuck in a helmet vent and sting the top of my head, then the *very* *next* *day* in a totally different place, one hung up on my glasses and stung the bridge of my nose. Again, it was the anticipation; plenty of time to think to myself "I get stung in the head yesterday, and now I'm about to get stung in the face?!? How can creatures with such minimal central nervous systems be out to get me?" At least I learned the lesson of the first time: Don't try to frantically swat at the wasp until you stop the bike. Also, nothing guarantees a really nasty headache like a wasp sting to the scalp.
