I guess it's the spacers, but I can take those out. I haven't done that yet.

I'm interested to hear about them, though. People seem to like them.

I know the spacers have nothing to do with it, though.

A headset won't make you any faster. From my experiences with them on my mtb's, they are machined to tighter tolerances than other headsets and the bearings generally run alot smoother than other headset makes out there. Chris King was also among the first, if not the first of the bike component companies to go green with their manufacturing.

Just wait for that headset to go out before replacing it. Mine went in about 5 months. As said above the quality on tolerances and such on a King is very high. Also comes with a ten year warranty, it would last forever. A headset aint going to make you faster, if your not thinking about your headset when your riding then it's a good headset in my opinion, and you don't need a king to do that.

I replaced the headset on my Bianchi Pista after about six months, partly because Bianchi used the cheapest headset they could find, and partly because I just weigh too much for this bike.

I replaced it with a Chris King, but I realize now that a number of much cheaper headsets would have done as well.

One buys a Chris King headset if he wants to never buy another headset; if he rides year round in nasty weather; and, for the braggin' rights.

If a rider's bike has a 1.125" steerer tube, I think the Cane Creek S-1 for $34 will do everything a rider could want a headset to do.

That said, I have a 1" steerer tube and a Chris King headset.

the s2 would be great for a 1" steerer.
