having issues with my seat

I recently purchased an 07 Rush Hour that I was given a good deal on from a LBS. I love the bike. However, I am unable to adjust the seat in order to find a comfortable riding position. I have tried adjusting the seat higher and lower, the angle of the seat, how far forward and back it is on the post.

Right now it is up a little higher than the handlebars, and it is comfortable when sitting on it in an upright position only. As soon as I lean forward to reach the grips the seat is no longer comfortable whatsoever. So right now, riding any substantial distance is out of the question.

Is it possible I just need a new seat? and if so, does anyone have any recomendations? I feel like if there were more area to be seated on, it would be far less painful. Furthermore, I understand that I am not supposed to have all my weight on the seat, and that I am supposed to be supporting some weight using my legs and arms.

any help is greatly appreaciated.

how are you sitting on the seat before reaching the grips?

are your feet on the ground when you are sitting straight up without touching the handlebars?

am i the only one who cant understand this post?

I am just sitting on it, like you would sit on any bike seat.

my feet are unable to reach the ground when sitting on the seat...i would think thats pretty normal.

what is there to not understand, what is the proper or recommended position of the seat, why am i having such trouble finding a comfortable forward riding position?

perhaps a picture of yourself on the saddle?

what saddle are you using? could it be that you are just not used to riding in an aero position?

a new saddle may help, or seatpost even.

best bet would be to go back to the shop that sold you the bike and ask them if they can help you with fit, if they are any good they should give you 20 mins or so to straighten you out.

+1 on going back to the LBS they should be able to get it all sorted out for you.

my friend has been complaining about his new rush hour seat as well. if youre in pain, you might have too much of your weight on the seat. try lowering or setting back a little to move some to your hands and feet.

Vaseline is your friend!

you really shouldnt be supporting yourself with your arms. you probably need a new saddle that fits your sit bones. or just HTFU.

I usually move back on the saddle when switching from an upright to a tucked position, I find that it distributes the weight better.

There are other possibilities, one being that the stock saddle is crap and/or doesn't fit you, HTFU being another. Since you just bought it from your LBS, see if they'll let you test out a few different saddles to see if you can find one that feels better. I've heard of places with exchange programs where they'll let you trade in your old saddle for one that fits better.

If you got the bike at a LBS, I'm assuming it fits properly. The simple solution would be to lower the nose of your saddle some and find a happy medium for both aero and upright positions. Fit issues are not always simple, it may take one or all of these things to be comfortable:
adjust stem length and or height
different handlebars
different saddle adjustment
different bike

Also, as another poster said, it is pretty normal to shift back on your saddle when going into a tucked position.

I remember the first time i sat on my bike with the narrow seat and all, I felt like my croch area was going to fall off and I was in pain. It took a couple days of soreness, a 43 mile ride, and some adjustments to get used to it and now i feel very comfortable. I think that you are just not accustomed to sitting a a narrow seat and many little muscles in your underarea are getting a little irritated. Just give it some time and if that doesn't help, get new saddle.
