Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Internet bike kids!!

So my friend had just broken his chain, which was crazy and another story in itself. Bottom line was that he got himself stopped impressively fast and we walked the rest of 10 blocks to where we were headed. Then when we get there, this guy comes out of the bar as we're locking up and says...

"How do you break a chain on a fixie??" then looks at the bike a little closer. "Ohhh. It's a conversion."

We both just looked at him like he was an idiot and then as he's walking away, he yells back, "NJS dude! Live by it!" and pounds his fist on his chest.

The funniest part is that I've seen this guy before and he does have an all-NJS bike. Except for the frame, which appears to be a Kilo TT . And he has no bar ends or wrap, and no brake, and I almost always see him cruising at like 5 MPH on the sidewalk.

I think I've gotta blame the internet for this guy.

I'm 100% positive this dude would leap at the chance to pose for a stranger next to his bike, so that wouldn't be hard to obtain.

I will post a follow-up.

maybe he thought you had a 1/8 chain but you run a 3/32 setup, although both should be fine so it still wouldn't make sense

Scary. Seems like he was just trying to throw around all the jargon he could, I agree with the sentiment of the OP—I blame the interwebs.

And yet if it wasn't for the internet, I'd know practically nothing about bicycles.
