Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

no longer a skidding virgin...and..

that didn't sound like I wanted it to....

Finally, all those miles on the lake front path were put to good use..the fine gravel sides are perfect for learning how to skid. Hacking off the ends of my drops and flippin' 'em were super helpful in getting forward enough for decent skidding.

and...anyone remotely interested in a Spinergy Spox wheelset? 700c of course, super low miles, set up for campy cassette... the black PBO spokes...
see the pics...

I'm not totally sure I want to sell them, because I love them, and, I want them to end up on my (not yet purchased) road bike, but because of the rear's somewhat limited fixed capability and my employment status, I would be willing to sell them for the right price.

lemme know,randy

I'm a poor cyclist and I live in Chicago. What would be the neighborly thing to do?

Just wondering if when everyone says skidding that they mean that they can lock up with either leg forward? I am sorry if this is a silly question but I am a simple minded fellow.

It means using your face to stop.

I am not sure what you mean. Are you saying that riding w/out brakes of any kind is bad? Because I have never really felt in danger while riding brakeless. I have known people who have broken their jaws thanks to their friend Mr. Front Brake.

I don't run brakes either. It was just a little joking comment about how people... nevermind, read this. https://www.bikeforums.net/singlespeed-fixed-gear/51473-new-fun-owie-photos.html

I certainly didn't want to start the brake/no-brake wars again

I am sorry as WK and I discussed your request for help and decided you need to handle this one on your own. You're a big boy now.

Fish!

Here's a hint: it involves barbed wire and stealing back what you gave.

I can but for some reason I can only hop with my right leg on the up stroke or i just loose it. Thats why I don't hop much, need practice...

i usually always skid with my right foot forwards. i should practice more with the left because when i get caught needing to skid like that i get all wobbly. i dont know if i know how to hop or why i would ever need to....?

i can skid with either foot forward. i can usually push the wheel around the opposite direction while skidding also, not very far mind you, but still...and i'm not really sure what that accomplishes, other than increasing my chances of breaking my chain, and wearing out my tire faster.
