so after an exhaustive search for a candidate for a SS conversion for my commuter bike, i am giving up and buying an orange clockwork. I'm pretty souped to get a brand new bike. it would have cost me more to buy the parts i wanted anyway!

tell me about experiences with the clockwork!!

I've had a Burgundy one for a little over a month now maybe two. It took me a few rides to really get used to it but now I love it. It's nice to have the brakes there, but I don't use them very often, but I've been glad to have them there in the instances I did need them. If I get a new bars I'll probably take the back one off.
It wasn't too hard to put together at home at all and once I got it going I took it to my LBS for a 17t fixed cog and haven't switched to the free wheel side since.

I think that was for tonight, but I forgot it's St. Paddy's day and I rather not go back outside once I get in, lol. The group's of DB's in my way leaving work was enough to annoy me. I do want to check that ride out though.

My experience, the pedals suck ass. Swapped for new ones and the difference in spinning resistance is a joke. Lose the rear brake and wheel reflectors...pretty much it.
No need for cloth tape in the wheels, there is a nice thick piece already inside.
In the parts kit there will be a small round rubber plug with a hex shape on the bottom, this goes into the steering stem allen bolt for looks I guess.

Yeah, cut the stock front bars to see how it would turn out.
I added MKS GR-9's pedals with Powergrip straps.
Not the stock saddle, it's a Selle Italia Pro-Link Gel.

I plan to sell the Selle seat/chopped bar/stock stem/Tektro brake lever+cable/rear caliper if anyone is interested.

i wonder if they would fit? i would assume so, 30's are pretty narrow, i plan to bike commute to newark penn station with this bike, so sure, that sounds like a plan.

thats actually a really nice commute, branch brook parks is a great ride with both dirt paths and the paved road.

i went to NJIT in newark and really liked riding my bike there

thats good to hear, i went for a test run over the weekend and got lost in newark, things went from bad to worse pretty quickly.

The chop and flopped bars are fine, they are pretty "puffy/cushiony" because all the original bar tape is condensed/overlapped onto a smaller length.
Definitely going to stay with bullhorns, there are a lot out there to decide on. But nothing beats cutting stock drops, free and cheap!

It's cool to see other people getting Clockworks!
The silver/orange scheme really compliment each other and looks clean. Though I wonder what a little blue or perhaps lime green...on the grips/wheels would turn out?

The seat post to an aluminum forte one I had lying around and a forte RS1 saddle. They are amazingly comfortable to me.
There is a vittoria fortezza SE tire on there.

I changed the stock pedals to MKS GR-9s with Pake Neon Orange Straps and Soma clips.
And to anyone wondering since I searched days on end for this answer, I have size 12/13 wide feet and the GR-9s are actually quite perfect even with my big feet.
The rear and front tire are victoria randos.
I ordered some RB-021 bullhorns. After trying them out on a friend's bike, I just had to get some.
The stock ones aren't bad at all though.

I may get a longer stem in due time.

well, im terribly sorry that you think it is ugly as ****.
I'm not going to lie, **** is a pretty ugly thing to compare a bike to. In fact, I'd will probably have to change my outlook on **** in order to compare a bike to it. oh well. to each their own.

Care to explain about the wheels? "Trust me" isn't a compelling argument.

.....because it's been widely discussed the wheels are perfectly great and a step above even the similiar models from BikesDirect.

my roommate got one, I helped him set it up.

fork came with the dropout bent, so we had to throw a wrench in it and bend it to get the axle in. the paint got a little ****ed up around the notch, but it works now. Otherwise it went together pretty nicely.

pedals are garbage, though i think my friend will just ride them until they totally sieze up (they're really sandy and rough feeling. the platform part themselves aren't very comfortable either). I haven't ridden it much, but so far it seems solid (we threw on a 16t cog i had sitting around, some cheap stamped POS). the saddle is pretty garbage too, I'm used to riding on a b17 or rolls though, I guess it works though. the wheels came pretty true, and the tension felt right. overall I think it's a great deal, and just needs another 70 or so dumped in to make it great (mks pedals, used rolls, metal clips)
