I did it a couple weeks ago...I was bored, and the headtube looked really bad since the previous owner did not put anything on the brake cable to prevent rubbing. It was down to the bare metal in one spot. It annoyed me so I just stripped the whole thing.

i want to see it powdercoated a root beer color. not that i don't like the bare aluminum, just that it's such a cool bike it deserves like, metallic flake root beer brown base with cream almond fork ends, like 8-10 inches of solid color on either end. and the word "Roger" in the rainier logo. really stick it to those raleigh owners.

thanks. nikon represent
also: to all these people who argue against the urban area/fixed gear trend correlation... suck it:
you just have to know where to look. also, i'm not going into specifics but let me just say that the components on this bike are absolute insanity. i mean, this bike is a condensed diamond from the coal mines of psychosis, and it weighs 289 karats. it's just that crazy. and i don't necessarily mean good crazy, i mean dude needs a straight jacket. locking this bike up on the street is crazier than charging the front lines with no vest.
and i feel okay editorializing about this because he locked up while i was inside. leave something like this around and you're gonna get talked about.

if anyone tried stealing any wheels here they'd have about ten employees on them in seconds. you don't want to know the amount of pride these guys have in their bikes, or the force with which they'd protect them.
LHD... among a great many other things yes.

My new Bianchi San Jose
I plan on changing out the saddle first but since it took a big dent out of my bank account I can wait on the other stuff :-)

ichitz, I got that incase bag about a month or so back. Its awesome. Holds everything I need. Riding with it can be a pain though. It stays in place but if you make the wrong move it slides quite a bit. It would be the PERFECT bag if it had an under arm strap. I'm planning on getting one sewn in. Otherwise I love it.

I've been reading the forums here for a few months, but just signed up. Long-time road rider but new to FG. This looked like a good place to start.
This is the "conversion" that I have built from a bare frame+fork and variety of components. Colors for fun (I like green).
Some comments on the build:
1. The frame is 47cm c-c on the seat tube, but the bottom bracket clearance is ~23mm higher than either of my 49cm c-c road bikes, so standover height is about the same. Top tube is longer than my road bikes, but reach is OK on the bullhorns - drops may require a shorter stem. Tange Prestige DB = LIGHT but . . .
2. The DP-18 rims are HEAVY, hopefully they will be durable.
3. I got cheap Duro Speedy Arrow tires, which are lumpy and generally poor quality. A pair of Vittoria Zafiro Pros are on order (compromise between cost and quality).
4. The saddle is surprisingly comfortable, a Kore Retrobu Turbo clone. For 20-30 minute roller sessions, it is the most comfortable saddle I have (compared to the Specialized Avatar and Flite Ti on my road bikes, which both work well on long rides). Longer rides may prove different.
5. I have only ridden this bike on the rollers so far, due to still recovering from broken bones from an accident last month (doc doesn't want me out on the street yet).
Looking forward to riding again, maybe as soon as this week.
