Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Velocity road hub. All-city in the back. Theyre pretty cheap wheels but at least they were handbuilt.

I think it looks great. Is it a Scrambler with a different fork?

Dude, trust me...a size small Madison is nowhere near 56-58 (regardless of how bad Schwinn sucks at sizing) and 165s are pretty much the most common-sized crank for fixed gear street appplications.

Thanks. Yeah it's a 183rd St Cycles fork. When I took the original frameset to the LBS to get the steerer cut, the guy messed up and cut too much so he hooked me up with this fork for free.

I really like the Scrambler. Great geometry, lot of fun, only $150.

Do you run into any toe overlap issues with your madison? My shop has an '09 yellow one in either a 56 or 58 (sticker says small) that I'm thinking about picking up, but as I was riding around the shop I kept hitting my toes against the tire, even when they were in the toe straps. I don't recall what length of cranks are on there, those can always be swapped for shorter ones if they are like 175-180, but it just seamed like it was really bad toe overlap for a stock bike...

-Connor
God I hope you are not the most knowledgeable person in your shop.

Thanks. What's wrong with stickers on the wheel? I like to let the world know that I appreciate Velocity for bringing a 426g, non-boutique, 23mm wide rim to the market.

Cranks are just the eighthinch ones. I don't know why the logo didn't show up in the photo that is weird. I've been considering upgrading to Sram S300, but to be honest, there's nothing wrong with what I have now so that can wait.

If I'm going to get custom handbuilt wheels I'm gonna get them exactly how I want them, which is what you see here. I got black nipples though I hope you like.

I was mistaken, you were right. I wasn't considering that the 2 "medium" sized bikes sitting on either side of it were Langsters with compact geometry, where as the Madison still uses old school (standard?) geometry. Measured it today and it was 53-53, which I wouldn't consider a small, but it was still no 56-58. Its has 170 crank arms on it, so I could swap to 165's no problem. Other than the toe overlap because of the smaller frame, I still really like the bike. Because of the geometry it doesn't have a rediculous amount of seatpost sticking out of the frame, and I kinda like the shorter toptube because I'm fat and I don't like to be too bent over. Still considering if it would be worth replacing my langster with.

Okay, a over tightened drive train causes more friction with takes more effort to spin.
