yeah I agree $100 for a chain is ridiculous. Anything over $25 for a chain is ridiculous. It's not like you can tell a difference.

I didn't spend a bill on the chain; I was just mentioning that because I saw it recently on the website. My friend who studied abroad in Japan hooked me up with a solid drive chain for cheaper than most of you have added that to your rides, that is all. I was fine with my Miche drive train on my group buy since that 'ish is whisper quiet, and doesn't involve a screw and nut for an attachment. Plus that Miche chain is only $12.31 on PBK, so may be cheaper and better than a '$15 chain.'

And its not that I am randomly mixing colors, but purple and green look great together because they are part of a triadic harmony, though they survive on their own w/o the orange. Remember, the Joker had his suit made custom,

I'll have to check out one of those Miche chains sometime. I just put on a new KMC basic chain an hour ago. Same one I used to have. Not the quietest in the world, but it's fine for $8.

dude, yet again- where do you get your information?

a wipperman is not the same as a kmc.

you can tell a difference.

and you also don't have to pay 100 dollars from bens!

all of this though requires a little research and common sense...

or, go buy a real track chain and get back to me because i'm 98% sure you'll have an epiphany.

i've ridden both and there is a clear difference if you know how to listen to the bike.

but it's ok man i understand you want to look at things- think you know whats up- and spread it around like you know it as fact.... just, to be taken seriously, you should know what you're talking about.

Get a PC-1 and shut up, stop whining about your expensive chain. You're just mad because you spent too much.

ugh. the PC-1 and the 510HX are possibly the worst two choices in that price range. whitestar is much better, as is the miche, and the basic/eco from izumi or DID. if you're stuck on kmc you may as well get a 710.

and for clarity: i'm not suggesting anyone spend a c-note on a spiffy njs chain. but i'd use one if i didn't have to pay that— judging someone for their parts based on current USA retail internet prices is unnecessary.

Yeah guys he has said like a million times he didn't pay $100 for it, that's just retail.

I'd take that chain in a second if I didn't have to pay more than $20 for it.

Please. I have ridden expensive chains and inexpensive chains in my last decade of riding track bikes. The only real difference the most expensive NJS chain and a bottom of the barrel KMC is durability. Listen to a bike? What you're hearing is the sound of putting a new chain on unevenly worn cogs and chainrings.

You're a joke.

The KMC Z510HX is an excellent chain, on par with the Whitestar and the Miche. I have used all three for years.

Dude, you can preach it all day but that doesn't make it so. When we really get honest with ourselves budget chains are going to stretch way more than a genuine track chain- that's why people shell out bucks for them. If you ride slow, don't skid, or put extraneous forces on your bike via drive train, then you probably don't need the track chain.

Also, my drive train is ship-shape with no wear issues! Thanks for the assumption though (ass out of you and me? or just you?), i guess it made your point?

That's hilarious. Most of the people that ride at my local velodrome use KMC 710 or a Whitestar or a Miche. If you were to survey people that ride track, I'd bet that 50% use these and are happy with them. And the chains I have mentioned and recommended are inexpensive, but they certainly are not "budget chains." You realize that's possible to receive quality without spending much, right?

You obviously do not spend regular time at Dick Lane, since you're so far away. So, perhaps, you should read up in the Track forum and see what people are using because you obviously do not know what you're talking about.

When someone has an opposing point of view from yours, does it make you feel threatened in some ways? Jeez, guys.

Xb--Are you open to criticism of that build?

It just doesn't look like a steamroller to me. I typically see Miche parts on things like Pista concepts, Affinity, soma rush, etc. It just looks off on a steamroller. You are taking a bike that doesn't really have the look of a fast track bike and putting parts on that are meant for more aggressive bikes. If you are going to use all those Miche parts, you should at least take the Surly and Steamroller decals off the frame. Just my 2 cents. Not trying to be offensive, just telling you my impressions of the bike.

It's all good brother, I welcome all input. I march to the beat of a different drummer, hence the reason I tried the Miche parts out on the 'roller. I was actually going for a look that was not typical Steamroller. I will tell you this, it flies now compared to the heavy wheels I had on it before. I'll ride it around like this for a few weeks and then probably try something else...Thanks for the comments, I appreciate the advice. I was going to lose the Surly decals, but just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I think if you got rid of the decals on the frame it would change the look of the bike entirely. The surly decals are just very not....fast looking haha. I know that sounds SO stupid but I think you know what I mean. w/o the decals, though, I think it would look cooler. BUT, if your goal is to have a diff. looking steamroller, then I think you achieved that!
