Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

My first single speed ride, in Manhattan

I figured, at age 61, I better learn to ride a single speed soon, or I'd run out of time. So I rode one in Manhattan last weekend. Photo and stories here:

By the time I return with my bike, I'll have taught myself to ride FG, too.

Good for you! Those shots are gorgeous. NYC is probably my favourite city in the world. I'll have to return soon.

Excellent! I visited NYC several times, but never rode around on a bike. I'm sure it's a whole new experience.

Awesome! glad you enjoyed your time here. I recently took forum member Mander on a tour of Manhattan. I lent him my fixed gear and took him everywhere I could think of in one day.
