i just found out UPS left some shiny new bike parts at my house, which my wife confirmed. how can i cope with waiting to get home, bolt them to the SS and go for a ride. oh, the cruelty!!...

just buy parts more often, you get used to it pretty quickly.

let me know how you wind up liking those pedals spooki, i'm undecided which way i want to go with my new SS, currently rocking eggbeaters now, but i think a road pedal might be better.

anyway i have campy brakes and a new stem for my clockwork waiting at the house.

do you ride your ss as a road or city bike? i used looks for awhile (very similar mechanism to the ultegra above), and i will say that it works AMAZINGLY on longer distances, but horrible for frequent unclipping. Trying to flip a look pedal with the slick carbon underside of a road shoe is a horrible pain in the ass, especially in traffic. the eggbeaters are multi directional, so this doesn't come into factor. On the other hand, they're a much smaller pedal, so unless they're a platform (like the mallot) you're transferring all of your power into a much smaller contact point (expect hot spots and flex).
those who use the dura-ace/ultegra/105 style spd-sl or look&keo style do so because they 1) climb lots or 2) mash lots or 3) stay in the cockpit for the majority of the ride over long distances.
if you sprint, time trial, climb or ride 75 miles a week or more i'd go with them.

but yeah, i'll let you know how they feel.

yes, i was referring to when i do much longer rides with the SS, part of my goals for this year are a SS century.

I will definitely keep the mountain shoes and eggys for the daily short trips and commuting, but i'm thinking road pedals for the longer rides (say 30 M and up)

for what its worth, my actual road bike has speedplay zero's on it which i love, and my retro road bike has look keo's on it, which are OK.

if these pedals work out, our household is going all spd-sl's by 2010*. the looks were comfy as hell, but these are wider and have high end stiffness without breaking the bank. $80 bucks for the 6620s was too good to pass up...

there's something huge to be said for having every bike using the same cleat type, especially w/ more than one rider.

yes, this is huge. its just not practical to use road shoes for urban riding though, i suspect i will be an all crank brothers and speedplay household soon enough though, which should be manageable.

I always just end up going home at lunch and installing my new parts. Did it today even, with a new stem.

why not just go all crank brothers? the quattro seems to be a viable road option...

Where you get those pedals for 80 bucks?

I switched from clips/straps to SPD Sl's and really liking them so far. I do around 80-100 miles a week and I think it was a wise investment. I just went with the cheap Shimano R075 shoes for 40 bucks and they fit my feet perfectly.

Eggys are great for long distance road rides too.

I once had some parts come in while I was ... Ugh ... At the mall with Mrs. Prawn. It was all bad.

Last week: Alex DH22 rims (black), SS/FG chainring bolts, celeste bar tape

Then I had to return those alex rims due to stripped lockring threads :mad:

Next week the Alex rims are coming back from Ben's fully fixed (they are a great shop, I am going to sell the fixed rims to someone on CL) AS WELL AS a brand new pair of Celeste Deep Vs laced to black formula hub from Wheel&Sprocket.

Some time either next week or week after will be MKS pedals, Andel crank, Tranz-X bullhorns, bar end brake lever.

I have never had this many bike parts come in in such a short period of time though.

Also, I went with machined sidewalls on the celeste Deep V rims b/c of practicality purposes (brake) and b/c I think they honestly look better. The all celeste rim seemed a bit much and the silver seemed like it would blend nicely w/ the few other silver parts I have on my bike.

Yeah, wheelset I mean. Both the rims I talk about are actually complete wheelsets. I was amazed how the Alex rim (which came with a generic hub) stripped so quickly on the lokring threads. I am really excited for the celeste wheels, though as well as the bullhorns and crank. mmmm

was it formula? i've never had problem with formula hubs, but i'm seeing more and more frequent posts about riders having issues with their threads lately...

no it was a generic, no-name hub that Ben's cycle puts on these Alex DH-22 rims.

They were 75 bucks for the complete set when I bought them and the lockring threads stripped within 2 days of riding (and I properly greased/installed lockring). To their credit, Ben's cycle replaced that rear hub/whole wheel for free, but I saw these celeste Deep Vs that I just couldn't refuse so I went for it and I am going to sell the Alex rims (which should be PERFECT now) for like 100 bucks

75 for the set is insane.

though i guess it's not a bargain if they break.

also: selling the wheelset (that breaks after two days) for a profit is sorta lame...
