Hello all,

I'm in the market for some colored wheels. I was wondering if anyone has had experience between IRO, Velocity, or Weinmann. I know there is much debate between V's and dp18's with weight and quality..etc.. but I haven't heard much about the IRO. Well, what I have heard is good, so I'd like to get more input about them. They're a bit more, but not much, and they make many colors and you can pretty much customize the set how ever you like: hubs, spokes, rim..etc. What I do like about the V's is the anodized green color. Anyway, anyone with input I'd greatly appreciate it. Quality? Assurance? style? weight?

DP18's are the same weight as the Deep v's, they're both machine built (unless you get them purposely handbuilt at your LBS) so long as you true and retension when you get the wheelset, they are both decent.

It was my understanding that "IRO" wheelsets were just velocity wheelsets.

No they're not. At least not the rim anyways. I personally weighed the Deep v's and DP18's at the shop. Identical weight.

i have a set of the dp18's ive beat on them by jumping on them and up curbs and such and they are still rollin straight and they are 100 bucks cheaper than deep v's but then again they are not deep v's

not anymore. Tony used to do deep v's with rebranded formula hubs, but that was a couple years ago.

they're essentially rebranded velocity fusions to rebranded gran compe hubs with some sort of higher spec'd bearings. not sure of the spokes. hand-built by Tony.

get the dp18s or the IROs. both are fine.

what do you mean by their quality control being bad? I just bought a pair of velocity wheels from wheel and sprocket which are built up using formula hubs. I was under the impression that Velocity wheels are better quality than Weinmanns, is that not the case?

I doubt this actually has anything to do with the rims themselves, but I have a set of Deep Vs and a set of IRO rims, both built by Tony. The Vs are still perfectly true while the IRO front has a noticeable wobble. It's not enough that I've bothered to true it yet, but it is visible while riding and that set has far fewer miles on it.

higher demand has led to rushed production and a reduction of quality control. velocity hasnt been able to keep things in check lately or they just dont care and are cutting corners because they realize the demographic that rides these rims probably wouldnt know the difference.

i just got a set of DP18's, very glad i chose them over deep v's. they're $100 cheaper and you could argue identical quality.

I remember when DP-18's first came out and this forum ripped the very notion of them to shreds...

FWIW DP-18's are pinned, Deep-V's are pinned and bonded.
