What side of the BB is the L & R side
Specifically on the IRO BB. Its to late for me to take it back out and look, and I failed to do so (if it matters).
Any idea what side is what, is the side with the capped end of the threads left(side where the threaded section does not come off) or is the side with the threads with the open end left side.
What a noob question.
Also, should all the threads go inside the BB, I was tightening it down and it stopped suddenly, with what seems like a good amount of threads exposed and not contacting, doesn't seem right to me, but maybe im wrong.

As you may have suspected, Google is better than forums for this kind of question. But the reverse threaded part goes on the right.
That other thing you mentioned definitely doesn't seem right. Make sure the threads are clean, grease it and give it another try. You might want to take it to your lbs since you seem new to this (no offence) and there is some danger of your frame getting fuxored if you do the wrong thing.

yea it would royally suck to mess up the bb threads. the drive-side should be reverse-threaded, in other words, the side with the removable bottom bracket cup should be on the non-drive side, and should be normally-threaded.

in that case the BB is installed correctly, but the cup(removable end) wont thread in any further without what seems like excessive force.
I have an old varsity with the Truvativ BB adaptor that was a very tight squeeze. It didnt slip right in so i just tapped it slowly with a mallet and it went in, but I doubt it was so tight that it made the adaptor out of line.

American bottom bracket cups (and therefore, I'm guessing, the TruVativ adapter) need to be pressed in with a headset press (check out DIY version here). That's probably your problem.
Your bottom bracket also probably has a torque recommendation printed on it. I'm guessing it's around 20-30 foot pounds, which depending on the length of your wrench may feel like excessive force.

There is soemthing about the way the BB cup is threading on the one side. Even as I went to tighten it by hand to get it started, it went in a good amount of threads and then just got VERY tight very quick. I am mechanically inclined and worked on many cars, but the way this jsut tightened up didn't seem right, and I assure you I didnt strip anything or go the wrong way.

I bet the threads and/ or the bb shell are just slightly deformed. You can either just switch from hand tightening to a tool and cram it in if youre feeling lucky and impatient; or do the right thing and get the threads chased out at your lbs. In that situation I've gotten away with the lazy approach.
