Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

My touring bike is my work horse, I take out almost daily for errands and likely gets the most miles. Tomorrow I will get it back after it's Spring check up.. New stuff will be a new rear wheel ( rim and new spokes) new rear cluster, new chain and handlebar tape.. It's been used for commuting and five tours. So. likely that attention is over due.

I hate the Fizik tape. I have it on my current bar. Looks purty but actually blows.

Best tape I've used so far is the Planet Bike comfort gel. No joke. **** is comfy. Think I'm getting a roll to replace that Fizik soon.

I recently purchased some gold anodized Eighthinch track drops and crankset from my local fixed gear studio. The stock bottom bracket that came with my bike snapped internally and bearings were spilled inside.

I am really liking that. Even though I am only 5'4 and I can barely make it on/off the bike. For some reason the Cutter's stock bars feel way to close to the seat, considering the rest of the bikes size. This would certainly help. Great price off amazon, and they look high quality. Must... not spend more money... on cutter.

Haha give in to the dark side and splurge on your econobike. The only stock parts left on my Cutter (aside from the frame and fork) are the seat tube, saddle, and chain. Sure, I could have spent $500 up front on a better-equipped complete bike, but then I wouldn't have had the joy of rebuilding a bike and making it conform to my every aesthetic and functional preference.

Just bought a pair of zefal paragon mudguards for my commuter from Wiggle. 25ukp and they didn't even come with the fixing kit (turns out you need to spend an extra 12ukp for that). 25 quid for two bits of plastic. Wiggle used to be good value....no more.

I love the Fi'zi:k stuff. I've ridden 200km at a time with it. Doesn't soak up sweat, looks good and stays clean, way more durable than ordinary tape. Just more of a challenge to wrap perfectly. Padding feels great in the stand but I don't need it on the road.

Well the fizik looks good, I'll give you that. Other than that, meh. It hasn't really grown on me. Maybe eventually. Still have it on. Don't want it to go to waste.

Anyways, I'm about to get a new frame. Probably a Kilo. Cheap, so I can ride and enjoy worry-free. Just need to be sure of what size I'm going for... and what color. I wanted the black magic kilo stripper but it's sold out in most sizes
