Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I'm in the process of upgrading my drivetrain.

So far, I've already installed my new heavy duty chain and Messenger ring, and I'm waiting for my new Tange BB.

I've also ordered new Bell WO Bike lights and new track nuts.

I've got some ghetto ass regular nut with some washers on the back wheel which is no bueno at all. Chain just gets loose after a few miles so I'm afraid my bike will throw the chain -- which happened once already while I was trying to go down this hill safely after a fairly long ride with a good amount of hills....

next up, maybe some custom wheels from Ben's Cycle lol. Trying to resist going the inexpensive route at Velomine only because i think having Surly hubs would be worth it in the long run.

I got a pretty solid price on a complete FTP. So impulse buy.

The whole FTP is essentially brand new. The wheelset and the fork were really the only main factors that influenced my decision. I have a lot of things to sell now.

I would've never expected myself to buy one of these.

In black; I shall not be carried away by the likes of colored rubber.

LBS ran out of my usual randos and were having a deal on these; came down to only $5 extra. So it's time to expand my cycling palette.
Joke's on the tire nonetheless, I'm running it as a rear = tire death sentence.

Lezyne Pressure Drive and a pair of levers.

Guess I'm ready for flats now.

I used to trust the abundance of crappy bikeshops around here. Chances are there's a shop within a 10 minute walk in this city - the sort that sell basic MTBs, stock a few cable-locks, a couple of basic MTB tyres and some tubes.

Since I moved to roadbikes with 700c, I've been lucky - just two flats in two years of commuting - so I hadn't quite noticed that these shops don't have a clue what to do with these tubes. "We don't service race-bikes" said the fellow of my nearest shop when I needed a new tyre for my conversion - a low-level Hercules. Some don't even have a pump for Presta valves, and if I flat at night, there's not even a bus to ride home. That, combined with the solo riding on the roadie, convinced me to get my own kit.

"Race bikes"? Most bike shops do use shraeder valves because they use pressurized air, weird that they wouldn't have a valve cap converter though.
They really don't carry road tubes?

The MTB craze hit us hard. "If it doesn't have a front suspension at minimum, you're getting screwed" is pretty much the guideline here. Our local version of a fred dresses up in lycra, dons a bad-ass trail helmet with lights on it - and then does 5km/h rounds along parkways. Paved parkways.

I laughed when the storeowner said that. Ignorant idiot who's been running that store since my family moved into the area - must be over 15 years - and I always thought he was a bit of a crook, using his monopoly over the area to sell overpriced ****. Turns out it's true.
