Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bontrager?
It seems everytime i walk out of my lbs i am walking out with a bontrager item.
Granted, last time i was given a $50 seat for $12 dollars.
just curious if i should avoid this brand?

Bontrager is good, I've had this or that from them for years, my brother had a bontrager in the 90s and he liked it

It appears to be that it is the house/goto brand of that monster of a *****house, Trek! If you don't want to see/buy Bontrager crap, just do go into a Trek dealer. I personally can't stand Trek, and I won't spend 1 penny on anything that they make or will profit from in any way! JMO

I have a 99 Klein with a Bontrager stem, bar, seat post, hubs and rims. They've held up very well. I'm happy with them. If they're working for you, what does it matter what everyone else thinks?

I've never had a Bontrager part fail on me. I have, however, had a saddle from them that was absolutely the most uncomfortable saddle I've ever owned. It was super hard though, so if I'd have gotten the softer version maybe I'd have been singing a different tune? I don't know. Their stuff is solid, or it probably wouldn't be sold so profusely by every Trek dealer, or is there a contract?

They are just a cheap house brand. I have a few bontrager products and none of them are anything less than I would expect out of them.

bontrager isnt a "house brand" -- not anymore than gary fisher could be considered a "house brand"
they existed before being purchased by by trek.

some people dont like bontrager because they're logos kinda suck.
the quality is just fine.

I dont care so much what people think, its just i never had experience with anything but my stock parts or bontrager parts so i have nothing to compare them too.
Maybe i will get their hubs and rims, do you recommend? probably save a lot of money since its from my lbs.

Bontrager is fine, ignore the kiddies that are "raging against the machine" that they see as Trek. One thing is certain, Trek put 2 wheels beneath 1000x as many people as these brave rebels do nothing but complain to LOL
