Different kind of Bikes Direct "Dawes SST and SST-AL" weight question

Going to be purchasing one of these bikes directs bikes. I know "I get what I pay for, yadda yadda". I've been reading and reading and searching all over before I joined to ask this because I haven't seem to have found the answer.

I'm looking at getting either the Dawes SST or the SST-AL.

I prefer the look of the AL, the wheel set and the drop bars vs the bullhorns etc.

But my real question is, being a stocky guys (read: built like a football player) around 230ish, I feel like something called "advanced aluminum" just sounds like it will just flex like crazy when I'm standing on it, pushing it.

Or would I better off with the regualr SST, steel cromoly.

Thanks guys.

barring any unforeseen design/manufacturing errors, the aluminum bike would presumably be stiffer.

It's the opposite. Good steel vs good aluminum, the AL will feel stiffer, the steel will actually feel like a wet noodle. Note, huge generalization.

Good to know then.

I prefer the sst-al looks a lot more than the ss-t.

When I think of aluminum i just think weak for whatever reason. Last time I was at the gym, I was easily leg pressing 600+ for 10 or so reps and I felt like all that pressure on an aluminum bike would not end well.

Thanks for the help

at your heavy weight, I'd be more concerned with the wheels than steel vs. aluminum.

speaking of generalization!

Those are the same wheels on my Kilo TT Pro as on the SST-AL and I gotta say after truing them out of the box I haven't done so yet with over 800 miles+ since I bought the bike. BTW when I bought the kilo I was at your weight 230 and no issues whatsoever so get advice about parts from people who own it first of all and from people who had a competent wrench work on them as well.

Bullcrap. It all depends on how the frame is made. A steel, AL or crabon frame can all be made with equal stiffness.
