Locking wheel nuts?

i know there are some locking skewers out there, but does anybody know if there are locking nuts for solid axles? I generally just lock my front wheel to my frame (and back wheel), but Id like to be able to simplify my locking procedures for quick pop-ins to stores.

Go to AutoZone or some such place and see if they've got some 15mm locking nuts for car wheels. They aren't open ended but should be deep enough to not bottom out on the axle.

Problem with Wheelnuts for cars is that the contactsurface is conical to ensure a tight, centered fit when mounting the wheel. To use them on a bike you'd have to grind them flat.I think i've seen locknuts by pitlock.More money but less work.

dude, just put wingnuts on the thing and take the wheels with you.
it's what all the cool kids are doing.
maybe someday they'll come out with a skewer that doesn't have nuts at all. you just flip a little lever and the wheel falls off... that would be sweet.
what wheels do you have on your bike that you are worried about someone having a 15mm wrench in their pocket?
red loctite, anyone?

why do you all ask this question when we post about alternative solutions to wheel security?

i have a pair of $200 velocity Deep V's and i would like to cherish my hard work i put into to make $200 and not get it taken away. don't be a jerk and go around telling people that wheels aren't worth protecting just because you're rich enough to have 17 zipp wheels lying around on your bed. and yes i carry around a 15mm carbon fiber wrench on my keychain for style and function. minus the carbon part.

@drmuscle: i heard that the skewers they make for quick release addon are not big enough to be strong enough for a fixed gear hub so i've been told not to look into that route.

i have velocity areoheads w/formulas, id like to keep them attached to my bike. Im sure with 5 minutes and a 15m wrench and 2 allen wrenches you could disassemble an entire bike, i know i could. at least locking parts will be a small defense!

The pit m10 nuts are EXACTLY what I was looking for! thanks ziemas!

search some threads/reviews on those nuts.
I seem to recall that they are not capable with track axles, only with Rohloff hubs.
the threading / pitch is different or something.

I use an OnGuard locking skewer up front. Gotta have a hollow axle though, but it's very solid.

The pitlocks aren't even recommended for horizontal dropouts. Not to start that whole fixed gear torque thing up again, but if they can't handle forward facing dropouts, I think rear is just as bad.

First of it's a different type of locking nut from Pitlock.

Second, the standard Pitlock skewers work just fine in horizontal dropouts; my wife has used them for five years in her CrossCheck with no problems, including regularly bombing over cobblestones.

WTF guys?
you think i would honestly suggest wing nuts or a quick release?
9/10s of my post was sheer sarcasm. the red loctite was a legit suggestion. have you tried to get red loctite off without heating the nut?
17 zipps laying around? where did that even come from?
and yes, people walking around with a 15mm wrench that *happen* to be after the set of wheels you have IS pretty rare.
and jewish has it right. if you value your wheels so much (since you can't afford 17 zipps) lock them up as securely as you can. if you don't think you have enough locks, just take the damn bike with you.

wing nuts or a quick release would make more sense than red loctite.

please explain how one would change a blown tire on the side of the road with red loctite on his axles. do you really think heating up an axle and nuts is a "legit suggestion" to be taken seriously?

...pretty rare in Arkansas. Come lock your bike up in my hood - your wheels will be gone before sunrise.

well, that I agree with.

no they wouldn't! my 17 zipps never leave my bed, bro!
he said he wanted secure, loctite is pretty secure. it's his own fault for running over that glass bottle and needing to change a tire. (intense sarcasm inserted here)
