Best rain hoodie?

Looking for something:

-water PROOF (not "resistant")
-longer in back (for riding in dropped positions)
-brim
-snug fitting hood that sits far back enough on the face so as not to blind peripheral vision
-at least kinda breathable (sucks when you wear something water-proof just to get soaked from sweat being trapped inside); ie, vents
-snug fit (no ponchos or big baggy nonsense)

could be a jersey too, but i'm not as concerned about back pockets

(cost isn't really a concern)

Patagonia Houdini - While it does not meet all of your criteria it does a decent job

Pro
- Very light (can pack 100% of the time)
- Snug/Slim Fit body and hood and a bit longer in the back
- very breathable

Con
- Only H2O resistant
- not warm, but does block wind
- Limited pockets.

Hope this helps,

kj

looks nice, but it doesn't seem to have a longer back. do you know what i mean? like:

https://www.roadcycling.com/artman2/u...ing_Jacket.jpg
https://www.roadcycling.com/artman2/u...ing_jacket.jpg
https://www.wiggle.co.uk/images/gore%...cket%20med.jpg

hast to be cycling specific or it won't have that and you'll get rain in your bum.
also, i mean snug as in snug. like the above jawns.
snug hood is especially important as i don't want to keep pulling my hood up, and if i close the drawstring, my peripheral is gone.
i've seen them before; they almost have an integrated cycling cap type thing so that it doesn't budge but does keep your head and neck dry.

ooh, that looks really good. their jackets are all waterproof, i'm assuming? they seem to be what i'm looking for, and coupled with the hood they'd be perfect.

Check the commuter and touring forums, they seem to be highly regarded.

I don't own onee simply because my wife bought me the gore-tex jacket and I hate to hurt her. I did buy a EMS rain jacket and its hood rolls up into the collar
that stuffs in my pocket (barely) , but NO drop tail.

Get the showers pass, somone said Paragon sporting goods in NY had a 30% off sale on them this weekend.

The elite 2.0 gives you the best options of weatherproof/breathability.
BUTTTT, costs you twice as much.

All joking aside. I road in the Bike NY this past Sunday as a marshall with my $15.00 Yellow rain jacket from Performance. I was as dry as expected and it did not stop raining all day. I was out from 5:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Its not what I would call breathable but I've had alot worse. It has mesh inside the entire arms for breathablity. My head was wet with my cotton cap under hood, but so what I would have been wet from sweat.
Good luck, these decisions kill me.

Rob

I'd toss in a vote for the Elite too. Although I'm not a big fan of Showers Pass, I'm a huge fan of eVent. Noticeably more breathable than your typical Gore wear, and practically the same amount of waterproofness. Also, 3-layer construction will feel better and be much more durable than a 2-layer proprietary film construction.

You really have only two choices. You can get a softshell, which is breathable and semiwater repellent, or get a waterproof coat. A softshell is great if you want to breath, but won't keep you dry in a downpour. WP/B laminates(Goretex, ect) will keep you dry, but there isn't a single WP/B laminate that can move the amount of water vapor you produce riding a bike. I would just get a SilNylon rain coat and call it good myself.
