Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Get a LBS to install it. It's mostly due to the lockring not being 100% snug with the cog. Skidding in and of itself can't strip it, but when you torque down to go up a hill, the cog wants to go one way, and when you stop extremely fast on a fixed gear (or skid) the cog wants to rotate in the opposite direction, and that there is the main issue.
