I'm about 15 miles from Kissena. Rode over there a week or two ago and did a few laps with no one around. It's bumpy as hell. Got bored and went riding around the city instead.

I really wish there were more velodromes! Cycling (imo) is way more fun to watch and participate in than most other sports I've done. Like baseball. Or basketball. Okay that's just me. But still, it's awesome!

I live about 10-15km away from a really nice indoor wood track velodrome and have yet to go. The prep courses (Learn to Ride, Learn to Race) can get pricey, and I want to do it with a friend, so I'm holding off.

I bet riding on a wooden indoor velodrome is amazing. No complaints though ... I'm just happy to have one.

Kissena velodrome is a public park. Anyone can ride on it when it isn't being used for organized racing or training clinics.

Theres a velodrome in Washington near Marymoor that offers classes, Ive asked a couple girlfriends if they'd like to go. I dont think my bike would be ok on the track (my brake is a pain to take off), but sounds fun either way.

Yeah, I have this dream of riding every velodrome in North America. Sort of like the guys that take the summer off and visit every MLB park.
Maybe I'll plan that next year. Hmmmm....

Basically, one can spot a noob fresh off the street in a heartbeat. It, honestly, isn't much different than folks jumping onto a auto/motorcycle race track without training or experience.

Yeah I rode on the one in Frisco w/ NO prior experience. I just lied and told them I had ridden on one before and they let me on. I think Jean is trying to cover for me by upholding the lie I told to them. I just watched some of the riders for a few minutes and got on and followed their lines. Not very hard at all. They rent out GTB bikes. It's a 250, so the walls are pretty steep and you have to maintain a pretty high speed to stay on.
Also, DevilsHaircut, track racing is definitely not more fun than any other sport haha. I mean it's okay, but I have WAY more fun riding on the street. It's like comparing Formula 1 to NASCAR...NASCAR is BORING. As far as comparing it to other sports, I don't think there is much of a market for track bike racing. No one wants to watch it. I would watch an NBA or NFL game over a track race any day of the week. It's just a bunch of guys going around in a circle. The only way I could get really into it is Keirin, where you have the opportunity to bet on it. USA should start a gambling version of track racing in the states. That has potential.

What I meant is just that for me, most sports are coma-inducing. I liked basketball and such when I was younger but now it's just a yawnfest. I always have fun at the track. For other people I am sure watching tall people throw balls around is fun.

I can watch a MLB baseball game if it's on. But I won't plan to watch one. Believe it or not, I enjoy reading the box scores in the newspaper more.
NFL is cool...when you can get your team on TV. NFL has the sh*t so f*cked up that the only way you can see more than the local team is to spend megabucks on the NFL cable package...or spend megabucks in a bar that has said package.
Is NHL still around? Didn't that die in 2004?
I'm under the impression that MLS (soccer) is an exhibition sport.

I used to like NFL but I don't even watch that anymore. I am not sure it's because I dislike sports though ... mostly I think it's because I just don't watch TV at all anymore. :/ I think NHL is still around. My friend Sherri likes it. Everyone I know seems to like soccer but I can't get into it either. Soccer actually seems fun to play though.
