Dent in Hed3. Is it ****ed???

What do you think?

I know dents in carbon are bad, but is this on the critical list? Will it collapse on me at any moment?

Japanese bike park. they have these plastic clamps that hook around your rim. Unfortunately Hed3 rims are too tall for the clamping hooks. (ps, it's a friends, I didn't do it , but might buy it off him super cheap off him)

The other side of the rim has a smaller dent in the same place.

It looks like the fibers are intact. And the location is not a weak spot. Usually they critically fail at the top and bottom of the spokes.

TBH, I would probably keep riding it. Especially since the fibers are still in tact.

I believe contacting the company is the only way to get an accurate answer.

If you guys think HED is giong to say anything other than "You should throw that wheel away," you are crazy. Ever heard of a lawsuit? There is no way that the company is going to give him the OK to ride that wheel. That doesn't mean its not ridable.

the trouble is, being a dent you can't see if the fibre is separated on the inside (the convex side) of the damaged section.

my advice is to consider it compromised, and ride it accordingly; you could have it repaired professionally, or just treat it like a cheap hed3 that might fail at any time.

for get bout it.

its comprised, that little dented area is the weaks point of the wheel and any little pothole can cause it to fail and send you to the ER.

edit can't repair that either too. just way its made you cant just remove the resin and relay the CF down, it wouldnt be sound.

you have broken the fiber/resin matrix if the carbon has a dent that is a permanent distortion of the fibers meaning the bonds have broken.

that wheel is most definitely F'ed!!!

I feel like we have this thread every week. Fill in the blanks:

"Hi, my carbon fiber ________ has this _______ in the ___________ but it's not structural so should I ride it?"
"Not if you like your ________ to stay in your ________"
"Oh yeah dude it works great my cousin's girlfriend's roommate's uncle did this and he is a tarckstar"

For the last goddamn time, carbon fiber is cool but it is NOT WORTH YOUR TEETH.
