Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Need tire recommendation

Bonjour.

I have just built a "fix-gear" bike out of a good old Gitane racing frame from the period of 1972. I have built wheels with never-used Ambrosio rims and Campagnolo "high-flange" hubs. I now need tires.

In days before, I would use Clement Seta tires for such bike, but these tires are no longer produced, so I need to find new tires.

I am considering Veloflex Servisio Course, Tufo S3 Lite 215, and maybe Panaracer Rapide tires. I was sad to find that Vittoria does no longer make a good light tire for such riding.

Does any other member have information on these or other tires? If you know of others, please note that I must have tire of no more than 220g, and tire must be of the boyeaux type. I will not buy any tire produced in Germany.

I wish to hear actual experience, not ignorant opinions.

Yes, I will buy no tires from Germany. My grandpere was shot by Gestapo during the war, and I will not buy anything from Germany.

I believe the term in English may be "tubular".
