hello.i need to buy a saddle.
im working full time as a messenger, roughly 50hours a week on the road.
i currently have a brooks b-17 but its starting to take its toll on me.it just becomes sore after constant riding.
anyone got any reccommendations?
I used a B-17 for 1,000 miles, but was still uncomfortable. Switched back to my serfas cosmos and my butt is happy again. I have two of these saddles and have ridden them 14,000+ miles. They are only around $50 and the perfect fit for me.
Okay so the video is mostly for humor but it does make the point that all butts are not made the same. Pretty much all anyone can tell you is what works for them. YMMV.
I love my Brooks B-17 Imperial. Had it on three different bikes and ridden long distances on it, but if I had to work a full time job sitting on that saddle I might learn to hate it.
I would say try one of those Ass-o-meter machines at an LBS but I have no experience with them and they might be a gimmick to sell saddles from one manufacturer so I won't.
I have a B17 that I like, but it gives me too much perennial pressure if I ride for long distances. I don't like it too much for being in an aggressive position. For cruising around in an upright position or touring, I think the B17 is a great saddle though.
I recently bought a Selle Italia SLK Gel Flow and I like it. A LOT. The gel feels really good, and it has independent movement for your left and right cheeks which is good for tight maneuvering on city streets. Check it out. It's a racing saddle, but it's comfy
Last saddle I will talk about is the San Marco Rolls. That is one of the most comfy saddles I have ever rideen. Less perennial pressure than B17 and more cush than the SLK.
Here's the thing: spending 50 hours a week on ANY saddle is going to cause soreness. you're not gonna find one that is completely comfortable for that much time. You're just not.
