looking to get a fixie.
whats a good starter bike?
im looking for something on the lighter side (lots of stairs leading to my apartment)
and smaller frame (im 5 foot 7 inch)
any suggestions?
im thinking Mercier Kilo tt???

You might need a longer stem/seatpost tube, but carrying up/down stairs is a piece of cake.
Seriously, the Kilo TT seems to be hands down the favored starter bike. I'm waiting on the arrival of mine...

Ugh that bike is so tarck, look at the matching spokes and rims. Airless tires? AND streamers? TERRIBLE. I'd rather be caught dead than be seen riding on that bike!

how much cash you got? IRO Angus, Surly Steamroller, and Jamis Sputnik are 3 of my favorite "intro" fixed gear bikes. Those are more expensive than the kilo, but very good. If you want light, I would consider something that has nicer tubing than 4130. Reynolds 631/Tange Prestige are good. Dare I say aluminum?

In the great scheme of bikes, cheap fixed-gears like the Kilo TT have the weight benefits of being fixed-gears, though they're heavy as fixed-gears go.

if you have the extra cash, i'd recommend something in the IRO, Jamis Sputnik, Surly Steamroller range. While the Kilo is a perfectly fine bike, you'll get better components on these than the Kilo.
From what i understand the Sputnik is one of the lighter of the steel off the peg sub 1000 dollar fixed gears.
